Upgrading your Animus to Novus
This page details the process to upgrade your currently owned animus relic to a novus relic. (IE: Thyrus Animus to Thyrus Novus) Lost? You might be looking for the previous step Animus , or the next step Nexus.
To forge your Novus, you must infuse 75 Alexandrite on your sphere scroll with 75 materia – you get to customize the sub-stats of your relic!
What STATs do I meld on my Novus relic?! Well we have a Novus Stat Recommendations guide, hopefully you’ll find a meld suitable for you.
How do I obtain Alexandrite? Ah, here are the basic ways:
- Treasure Maps from Daily Quest (Morbid Motivation)
- Treasure Maps from lesser tomestones.
- Alexandrite from Allies Seals (Hunting)
- Alexandrite from fates (low drop rate)
How much Materia should I stockpile? Well, the general idea is X+3 should be safe…
Novus Melding Success Table
|44 (Crit, Parry, Acc, SpS, SkS)||100||100||100||100||100||100||96||90||80||70||60|
What does this table mean? You use Tier I materia until you reach the end of the table, then go to tier II – so on so forth. So for every tier you need +3 materia to be safe, but most people would just buy as they go. Hopefully you’ve been preparing your materia from the Animus step, like my recommendation.
No, I meant how do I obtain Alexandrite FAST? Now this is the golden question, isn’t it!
Alexandrite Farming Tips
Seriously, It’s hard to rush a Novus. First thing is to make sure you do your Daily Quest (Morbid Motivation). 1 Alex a day is ensured by doing just this. You also get some tomestones from this, so every few days you can get an extra map. Also, helping other newer players and alts are good for the 100 tomestone bonus on first time duty completion. If one duty takes 10 minutes, you’ll have a map every 40 minutes which (trust me) is good.
Fate Grinding + Hunting is the “best” way to speed process up. First, lets talk about hunting. Get yourself into a few Hunt Linkshells, ask around, socialize a bit… the best way to get Allies Seals is to get into as many quality Hunt LS’s as you can. There’s not much else I can advise you in terms of hunting. Oh, reducing your map load time will also give you less tantrums with ‘early pulls’.
Best place to Fate Grind while waiting for hunts would be Ceruleum Processing Plant (Northern Thanalan). This map is the best for many reasons: Spiritbonding to help yourself reduce costs. You can get tons of Tier II and Tier III (and Tier IV if you go for it) Materia while fate grinding here. Every little bit counts! You can even turn a massive profit by the time you’re done. Population here is always dense. Everyone fate-grinds here, so fates spawn fast and get done fast. More chances for you to get Alex!
Hunt camping + Fate Grind: Sometimes, load times are extremely bad, or sometimes you just want to take a break from NTH – in this case get yourself on this Hunt Tracking Page. (Change to the server you’re on in the upper left). Find the next A or S to spawn and grind fates there. This way you won’t miss out on hunts (Hint: If people start shouting LFP – it’s here)
Take it easy! Don’t stress yourself out farming alex. Even if you only ever do the daily+tomestone map, you’ll get it done in 2 months. If you tell yourself you’ll get 1 Alex a day from fates, you’ll cut this time in half. Another from hunts every day? Then it will only take a few weeks. Every alex is a baby step, and you only need to take 75.
Good luck hoarding Alexandrites and may The Twelve bless your IV melding! I assume you’re going to be checking the Nexus step next. Any tips or info to share? feel free to comment below!
