FFXIV 2.2 Black Mage (BLM) Best in slot (BiS) Gear Guide
So 2.2 has found you frying and freezing it up with your Black Mage, ey? Do so with maximum effect!! Bring the BOOM with your BLM – check our this Black Mage 2.2 Gear Guide!
Always remember: If you’re missing accuracy just use either Lava Toad Legs or Stuffed Cabbage.
Set 1: The BiS has 3 interchangeable pieces (BLM Gear Notes). Understanding these three pieces may save you some sol, or prevent bad luck from coil drops to reach this sets power. STARDUST ROD ANIMUS can also be used in this set and still be at acc cap.
Set 2: Is a set designed to use the same sol pieces as Set 1 minus t9 drops (Maximizing Laevateinn), so you can save sol.
*The Cashmere Breeches of Casting makes an EXCELLENT filler gear until you get the t9 pants. Meld it with the following materia:
Savage Aim IV, Savage Aim IV, Savage Aim IV, Quick III, Quick II.
of course there are other ways to meld this, but since Laevateinn has huge accuracy… You’ll notice if you complete the set, you’re going to be above ACC cap. Again, refer to the Gear Notes. (Set 2 has alot of quirks)
I did not feel the need to make a third set with BLM.
Wondering “What do BLM’s purchase first with my tomes of Sol?” – Here’s the answer!
- As DPS save for Laevateinn first, if you’re near getting the UAT.
- Evenstar Gloves
- Evenstar Hat
- Evenstar Sash
- Evenstar Earrings
- Evenstar Ring.
AFTER THE ABOVE, the rest is purely optional.
- Evenstar Coat isn’t that bad!
- Evenstar Bootee good for switching up.
- Evenstar Armillae is okay for switching up.
- Evenstar Necklace… pure filler…
- Evenstar Tights… well.. if you’ve made it this far down the list…
As I mentioned above there are three pieces that are “interchangeable”. Note that the ones in BOLD are the ones used in the list above, but any “combination” will still make an extremely strong set.
You only need 1/3 of these pieces to reach “BiS”:
- High Allagan Mask of Casting
- Evenstar Gloves of Casting
- High Allagan Boots of Casting
The above three are the “Accuracy Pieces”. If you’ve got one of them, fill out the missing one with the corresponding equivalent “DPS Piece”.
- Evenstar Hat
- High Allagan Gloves of Casting
- Evenstar Bootees
At least you got some degree of flexibility here.
Laevateinn set over Acc Cap?
Set 2 is purely designed to make use of the least sol possible while on your road to BiS. You actually use ZERO sol more than you would have Set 1 (with the exception of Laevateinn itself). Curiously, if you use any Stardust Rod with this set – you’re at acc cap!
Also, if you ARE using laevateinn and have the rest of the BiS set, just use 0/3 of the Acc Pieces (as mentioned above). You’ll still be over ACC cap, though.
If you’re really figdety about being that much over cap, you just need to reduce 19 Accuracy. Here’s a few ideas
- Bracelets from Allagan to Evenstar. (Best)
- Any ring -> Heros Ring of Casting.
The first suggestion isn’t bad given you’ll probably be without the T9 drops for a loooooooooooooong time.
Lastly if you don’t got the money for Cashmere, Sorcerers Tonban really isnt bad in the meantime!
BLM 2.2 Crafted Gear Viability
As discussed above the Cashmere Breeches of Casting is super legit until you get t9 pants. Cost-effective meld: Savage Aim IV, Savage Aim IV, Savage Aim IV, Quick III, Quick II.
If you’re not lucky witht he T8 body… Cashmere Robe of Casting is also a good substitute (especially when saving sol since chest is expensive). Coest-effective meld: Savage Might IV, Savage Might IV, Savage Might IV, Savage Aim III, Savage Aim II.
If you’re worried about force melding a IV, just skip it. The result is still extremely powerful and will be MUCH CHEAPER.
For Black Mages, since they don’t have a junk stat – ANY CRAFTED gear is worth it somehow. I can put up a cost effective meld for each if asked, but I really think the above two are the only ones really worth the effort (in terms of purely filler gear).
