Thaumaturge: Unlocking, and other basics

Leveling Methods, References and Reminders

In these boxes, I’ll put info that you’ll likely be referring to (or discovering) while leveling up your Thaumaturge.

Last but not least of these reminders, always logout at a sanctuary. It’s noted by the moon icon on the right side of your EXP bar. You gain rested EXP in these areas!

Thaumaturge Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

L1 Skill UnlockedBlizzard: Your basic spell used to gain the “Umbral Ice” buff – which greatly increases mana regen.

L2 Skill Unlocked – Fire: Your basic spell used to gain the “Astral Fire” buff – which greatly increases fire damage. I’ll explain a little more once you get to L4 – Transpose…

L4 Skill UnlockedTranspose: Turns Umbral Ice to Atral Fire and vice versa. So how it works is: Open with Fire (until you can’t cast any more Fires), Transpose, Blizzard until full then TRANSPOSE OR FIRE – repeat. It’ll make a lot of sense once you try it.

L5 THM Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Thaumaturges’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a Black Mage).

L6 Skill UnlockedThunder: Your first Damage over Time (DoT) spell – open with this, or refresh it when it’s about to fall off. Usually, we would refresh this during Ice phase.

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedAddle: Amazing for raids but pretty terrible for solo.

L10 Skill UnlockedSleep: Only good for questing and such (maybe dungeons, when healer falls asleep) – they wake up when hit. Great for quests and fates that require item interaction.

L10 THM Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Thaumaturges’ Guild.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Skill Unlocked – Blizzard II: AoE version of Blizzard which hits close range guys only. Can be a little awkward… but decent for dungeons.

L12 Role Action slot II unlockedBreak: Applies heavy. I don’t know when I would ever use this soloing. I would rather just DPS harder.

L15 THM Class Quest unlocks Scathe: check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Thaumaturges’ Guild.

Scathe: A filler spell for movement… great for getting that last bit in without “ruining” your “stance”…

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling

L16 Role Actions Slot III UnlockedDrain: A small nuke with lifesteal. You have no means of self-sustain so this could be useful soling.

L17 Unlocks - Challenge Log

L18 Class Quest Skill UnlockedFire II: Ah, Fire II. GREAT FOR AoE!!!! Makes your dungeon runs much faster.

L20 Role Actions Slot IV unlockedDiversion: Absolutely useless soloing, and of only limited use in dungeons this low. Skip for now. You’re gonna need this in raids, though.

L20 Trait UnlockedEnhanced Greased Lightning: explanation

L20 THM Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Thaumaturges’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot V unlockedLucid Dreaming: Pretty terrible for THM/BLM since you have infinite mana.

L25 THM Class Quest check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Thaumaturges’ Guild.

L26 Skill UnlockedThunder II: AN AoE DoT! Applies Thunder to all nearby enemies. Only one Thunder effect per caster applies, in case you’re wondering if T1 and T2 stack.

L28 Trait UnlockedThundercloud: Ahhh Thundercloud! It – each tick of Thunder gives you a chance to get a free, instant Thunder of your choice which does FULL DAMAGE (the entire DoT). Needless to say, this is amazing.

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP!
It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s Black Mage (BLM)!

The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are
simply finishing ALL THM class quests up to level 30.

L30 Class quest unlocksManaward, and the prereq for Black Mage:

Manaward: A sick defensive cooldown. Great for raids but of limited use soling.

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Thaumaturge. You now have the right to become a Black Mage!

How to become a Black Mage?

The quest to become a Black Mage is Taking the Black, found in Thaumaturges’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the Black Mage, and Convert.

Soul of the Black Mage is your job soul crystal. To become a Black Mage you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Thaumaturge again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Thaumaturge! Congrats! Feel free to proceed to the Black Mage Leveling Guide.

FFXIV Pugilist (PGL) Leveling Guide (Stormblood Updated!)

How to level up your Pugilist (PGL) fast! Useful cross-class skills, reminders, and the best places to be in any level – HERE!

Taking matters into your own hands, it seems. Well, if you’re leveling up Pugilist, you’ve found the right place. Our Pugilist Leveling Guide will help you punch right through!

This page is strictly for Pugilist – focusing more on PGL specific info like skills, traits, and playstyle notes. The GENERAL PROCESS that you should be following is outlined in our GENERAL LEVELING GUIDE: which you should be using ALONGSIDE THIS GUIDE.

Pugilist: Unlocking, and other basics

Leveling Methods, References and Reminders

In these boxes, I’ll put info that you’ll likely be referring to (or discovering) while leveling up your Pugilist.

EXP Grinding Methods
Bonus EXP and other EXP effects

Last but not least of these reminders, always logout at a sanctuary. It’s noted by the moon icon on the right side of your EXP bar. You gain rested EXP in these areas!

Pugilist Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

L1 Skill UnlockedBootshine: Your basic attack! It does critical damage from behind (difficult while solo…), and turns your form into Coeurl.

L4 Skill UnlockedTrue Strike: Requires Coeurl form and deals more damage from behind, then switches your stance to Raptor.

L5 PGL Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Pugilists’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a Monk).

L6 Skill UnlockedSnap Punch: And just like that, you have your first complete combo!!! Requires Raptor and deals bonus damage from flank. It gives you a stack of Greased Lightning (commonly known as GL), and changes your form to Opo-Opo.

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedSecond Wind: A heal is a heal. Since you’re not a healer – this is pretty good early on as you can imagine!

L10 Skill UnlockedInternal Release: A DPS cooldown that has quite a short recast time… use it often!

L10 PGL Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Pugilists’ Guild.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Role Action slot II unlockedArm’s Length: Virtually useless in the early levels. Don’t bother binding it yet.

L15 PGL Class Quest unlocks Fists of Earth: check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Pugilists’ Guild.

Fists of Earth: Your first stance! It reduces damage taken so it’s okay for soloing. In high tier content you can use this form to reduce damage taken from certain mechanics. For now, ALWAYS KEEP IT UP! It’s free defense!

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling

L16 Role Actions Slot III UnlockedLeg Sweep: Ahhh, pure VALUE! Switch this up to the first slot in your Role Actions. It’s main use is still stunning enemies to cancel their AoE abilities. This little gem also allows us to hit our positionals while solo! It’s also a small boon in dungeons, as stunning enemies makes them not hit your tank. Every little bit helps!

L17 Unlocks - Challenge Log

L18 Class Quest Skill UnlockedTwin Snakes: Ahh, your first branch in the combo. It requires Coeurl (2nd hit of combo), and gives you increased damage for a while! It’s always smart to go for this whenever you don’t have the Twin Snakes buff. So not you not only have to maintain GL, but Twin Snakes, too…. the plot thickens.

L20 Role Actions Slot IV unlockedDiversion: Useless while soloing. The main use is to help out your tank so you don’t pull. You may as well practice using this in dungeons and bosses early as now.

L20 Trait UnlockedEnhanced Greased Lightning: Allows for a second stack of Greased Lightning!

L20 PGL Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Pugilists’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot V unlockedInvigorate: Without TP you don’t do DPS. Simple as that! Switch this up to your second Role Action slot, as it will be useful for ANY kind of content. It’s especially useful to regain TP after death.

L25 PGL Class Quest check in on your guildmaster in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald – Pugilists’ Guild.

L26 Skill UnlockedArm of the Destroyer: An AoE attack which is only good against 4+ enemies. It changes your form to Raptor, so maintaining GL even in an AoE scenario isn’t too bad.

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP!
It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s Monk (MNK)!

The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are
simply finishing ALL PGL class quests up to level 30.

L30 Class quest unlocksDemolish, and the prereq for Monk:

Demolish: is your first Damage over Time skill. It’s a combo finisher (requires Raptor), but grants GL as well. Always a decent practice to open up with this combo! So now, against bosses, you have three things to look out for. GL, Demolish and Twin Snakes

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Pugilist. You now have the right to become a Monk!

How to become a Monk?

The quest to become a Monk is Brother from Another Mother, found in Pugilists’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the Monk, and Rockbreaker skill.

Soul of the Monk is your job soul crystal. To become a Monk you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Pugilist again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Pugilist! Congrats! Feel free to proceed to the Monk Leveling Guide. Hopefully our Pugilist Leveling Guide helped you out

FFXIV Rogue (ROG) Leveling Guide

How to level up your Rogue (ROG) fast! Useful cross-class skills, reminders, and the best places to be in any level – HERE!

Attracted to the whole double-wielding, stealth, and “jutsus”, ey? Well, I ain’t here to judge. But I am here to give you tips in this Rogue Leveling Guide – which, if you found yourself here, is likely your goal! Believe it!

This page is strictly for Rogue – focusing more on ROG specific info like skills, traits, and playstyle notes. The GENERAL PROCESS that you should be following is outlined in our GENERAL LEVELING GUIDE: which you should be using ALONGSIDE THIS GUIDE.

Rogue: Unlocking, and other basics

Leveling Methods, References and Reminders

In these boxes, I’ll put info that you’ll likely be referring to (or discovering) while leveling up your Rogue.

EXP Grinding Methods
Bonus EXP and other EXP effects

Last but not least of these reminders, always logout at a sanctuary. It’s noted by the moon icon on the right side of your EXP bar. You gain rested EXP in these areas!

Rogue Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

L1 Skill UnlockedSpinning Edge: Your “basic attack”. It eventually links up to your basic DPS combo.

L2 Skill UnlockedShade Shift: A strong defensive cooldown. It gives you a shield based on max HP. While its primary use is in high end content, be aware of it during the leveling process – it may save a death or two.

L4 Skill UnlockedGust Slash: Your first combo! Its from Spinning Edge > Gust Slash. The very beginnings of your future rotation.

L5 ROG Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Rogues’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a Ninja).

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedSecond Wind: A free heal is a free heal. This is obviously great while leveling up and you should be using it often.

L10 Skill UnlockedHide: Allows you to sneak around undetected! It’s actually pretty great in PvE / questing. Use it when you need to interact with objects guarded by NPC’s!

L10 ROG Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Rogues’ Guild.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Skill UnlockedAssassinate: An “off-gcd” (OGCD) skill that can only be used against low HP targets.

L12 Role Action slot II unlockedArm’s Length: Only useful in a select few high-end raids…. very niche. Almost useless in the leveling process.

L14 Trait UnlockedAll Fours: A weird trait that is almost useless in this game. Rogues take less falling damage but you never actually die from falling unless you’re in combat…

L15 ROG Class Quest unlocks Throwing Dagger: check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Rogue’S Guild.

Throwing DaggerA ranged attack. Not too hot. There really isn’t much else to say about this skill.

L15 ROG (continuing) Class QuestMug. Jacke will direct you to Western La Noscea for this quest.

Mug: Another OGCD that you should spam every time it’s available. Ignore the “bonus item” clause…

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling

L16 Role Actions Slot III Unlocked Leg Sweep: Put this in your first Role Action slot! A stun is SUPER VERSATILE in low levels! Interrupting enemy mobs so you don’t have to move out is great for melee. Stunning also provides damage mitigation (the mob won’t attack), which is a great little bonus in dungeons. It also allows you to land Trick Attack in solo encounters!

L17 Unlocks - Challenge Log
Advertisement

L18 Skill UnlockedTrick Attack: Ahhh, the infamous Trick Attack! “Trick” causes a good chunk of damage AND makes the target suffer from “increases damage taken” – if they’re struck from behind. While the latter part of the skill may be difficult to trigger in solo PvE, stuns and Hide help! Great versus bosses!

L20 Role Actions Slot IV unlockedDiversion: Useful only in dungeons and raids. Pulling from the tank is never good.

L20 Trait UnlockedFleet of Foot: A very unique passive you should be aware about. Rogues and Ninjas actually move faster than other classes!

L20 ROG Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Rogues’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot V unlockedBloodbath: TP is TP – without it, you can’t DPS! You should never leave home without it! Put this in your second Role Action slot!

L25 ROG Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Rogues’ Guild.

L26 Skill UnlockedAeolian Edge: Your first complete combo! It goes from Spinning Edge > Gust Slash > Aeolian Edge. The addition of a combo finisher improves your damage output quite a bit!

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP! It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s Ninja (NIN)! The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are simply finishing ALL ROG class quests up to level 30.

L30 Class quest unlocksJugulate, and the prereq for Ninja:

Jugulate: is Yet another OGCD that silences. While its potency is small, it’s better than zero! The Silence effect… hmm, honestly the more experienced you are with the game, the more you know when silence is actually usable. It’s almost strictly worse than stun in a vast majority of cases. Situations do exist where certain skills can only be silenced. A vast majority of the time, you’ll just be using this as bonus DPS.

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Rogue. You now have the right to become a Ninja!

How to become a Ninja?

The quest to become a Ninja is Peasants by Day, Ninjas by Night, found in Rogues’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the Ninja, and the skills Ten and Ninjutsu.

Soul of the Ninja is your job soul crystal. To become a Ninja you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Rogue again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Rogue! Congrats! Feel free to teleport behind the Ninja Leveling Guide. Hopefully our Rogue Leveling Guide helped you out… and if it didn’t – nothing personnel, kid.

How to level up your Lancer (LNC) fast! Useful cross-class skills, reminders, and the best places to be in any level – HERE!

A brave one, aren’t you? If you’re here, you’re in the business of leveling up a Lancer (LNC). Well here’s a tip, and a spear to go with it – “Stick ’em with the pointy end”. Our Lancer leveling guide will help you punch right through the early levels!

This page is strictly for Lancer – focusing more on LNC specific info like skills, traits, and playstyle notes. The GENERAL PROCESS that you should be following is outlined in our GENERAL LEVELING GUIDE: Which you should be using ALONGSIDE THIS GUIDE.

Lancer: Unlocking, and other basics

Leveling Methods, References and Reminders

In these boxes, I’ll put info that you’ll likely be referring to (or discovering) while leveling up your Lancer.

EXP Grinding Methods
Bonus EXP and other EXP effects

Last but not least of these reminders, always logout at a sanctuary. It’s noted by the moon icon on the right side of your EXP bar. You gain rested EXP in these areas!

Lancer Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

L1 Skill UnlockedTrue Thrust: For all intents and purposes – your basic attack.

L4 Skill UnlockedVorpal Thrust: Combos from True Thrust. This is the very beginnings of your rotation.

L5 LNC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Lancers’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a Dragoon).

L6 Skill UnlockedImpulse Drive: Has almost no use this early on. There was a purpose for gaining this on low levels back in the day, but that’s long gone. Ignore this skill for now but keep in mind it is part of a future combo.

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedSecond Wind: Regains some HP – great for soloing. You have no choice right now so slot it in.

L10 Skill UnlockedHeavy Thrust: Gives you a passive damage buff (whether you strike from front or side). It’s your first positional attack! Obviously while soloing, it’s quite difficult to get the potency bonus from the side. The buff you get though, ALWAYS KEEP IT UP!

L10 LNC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Lancers’ Guild.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Role Action slot II unlockedArm’s Length: Prevents knockback. Only has niche uses in raids – not very useful right now, however.

L15 LNC Class Quest unlocks Piercing Talon: check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Lancers’ Guild.

Piercing Talon: A ranged skill that has little to no practical use (except squeezing out tiny value in raids).

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling

L16 Role Actions Slot III UnlockedLeg Sweep: Not bad! A stun is great for soloing and dungeons – allowing you to effectively nullify the damage your target does for a short time. It also allows you to perform positional attacks while soloing! Great for the early levels and all dungeons.

L17 Unlocks - Challenge Log

L18 Skill UnlockedLife Surge: Turns your next action into a critical strike. Best used with your heaviest skills (IE Combo finishers). For now, that’s True Thrust.

L20 Role Actions Slot IV unlockedDiversion: Reduces threat generated. It’s quite useless for solo content. Its main purpose is for raids.

L20 Trait UnlockedEnhanced Strength.

L20 LNC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Lancers’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot III unlockedInvigorate: Ahhh good ‘ol Invigorate. Gives you a chunky amount of TP. Great for any party content. Never leave home without it in your Role Actions!

L25 LNC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Lancers’ Guild.

L26 Skill UnlockedFull Thrust: Your basic DPS combo finisher! It goes from True Thrust > Vorpal Thrust > Full Thrust. Use your Life Surge on this from now on.

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP! It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s Dragoon (DRG)! The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are simply finishing ALL LNC class quests up to level 30.

L30 Class quest unlocksBlood for Blood, and the prereq for Dragoon:

Blood for Blood: is a DPS increasing cooldown. The drawback is something you should be wary of in some raids. Increased damage TAKEN can be quite crippling for progression.

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Lancer. You now have the right to become a Dragoon!

How to become a Dragoon?

The quest to become a Dragoon is Eye of the Dragon, found in Lancers’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the Dragoon, and Jump skill.

Soul of the Dragoon is your job soul crystal. To become a Dragoon you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Lancer again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Lancer! Congrats! Hopefully our Lancer Leveling Guide helped you out. Feel free to, err, Jump into our Dragoon Leveling Guide.

FFXIV Arcanist (ACN) Leveling Guide

How to level up your Arcanist (ACN) fast! Useful cross-class skills, reminders, and the best places to be in any level – HERE!

Lured in by the pets? Don’t sweats. Our Arcanist leveling guide can help you out! Since leveling up fast is why you found this page, I assume!

This page is strictly for Arcanist – focusing more on ACN specific info like skills, traits, and playstyle notes. The GENERAL PROCESS that you should be following is outlined in our GENERAL LEVELING GUIDE: Which you should be using ALONGSIDE THIS GUIDE.

Arcanist: Unlocking, and other basics

Leveling Methods, References and Reminders

In these boxes, I’ll put info that you’ll likely be referring to (or discovering) while leveling up your Arcanist.

EXP Grinding Methods
Bonus EXP and other EXP effects

Last but not least of these reminders, always logout at a sanctuary. It’s noted by the moon icon on the right side of your EXP bar. You gain rested EXP in these areas!

Arcanist Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

L1 Skill UnlockedRuin: For all intents and purposes, it’s your basic attack. It does a pitiful amount of damage…

L2 Skill UnlockedBio: Your first Damage over Time (DoT) spell! Use it when opening on new enemies, but don’t refresh it if they’re nearly dead.

L4 Skill UnlockedSummon: Blue Carbuncle is a ranged DPS pet. ALWAYS HAVE A SUMMON OUT! They’re a source of easy, brainless, and FREE damage!

L4 Skill UnlockedPhysick: A run of the mill heal. Notice how generic Disciple of Magic gear has Mind on it, which improves healing.

L5 ACN Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Arcanists’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a Summoner or Scholar).

L6 Skill UnlockedAetherflow: The core of your future as an Arcanist. Aetherflow restores mana and gives you “Aetherflow“, which you expend to use special skills.

L6 Skill UnlockedEnergy Drain: Is one of those skills that use Aetherflow, coincidentally gained on the same level… It’s an off-gcd (OGCD) spell that damages enemies and gives you a bit of mana back. Realistically, in low level scenarios – just use it to do more damage.

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedCleric Stance: Quite an irrelevant skill this early on… 5% is 5%, I suppose, but don’t split hairs over it.

L10 Skill UnlockedMiasma: Your second DoT! Against new enemies, it’s smart to open with both DoT’s. Refresh them only if the enemy will survive for a significant portion of the duration.

L10 ACN Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lower Decks – Arcanists’ Guild.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Role Action slot II unlockedBreak: Slowing your opponent before reaching you… well… It’s not like enemies in this level range are that threatening. Not a very good skill.

L15 ACN Class Quest unlocks Summon II: check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lower Decks – Arcanists’ Guild.

Summon II: Topaz Carbuncle is OP. It’s a tank type pet that you should be using when soloing (DO NOT USE IT IN DUNGEONS). Use Physick on it when he’s low. As you can see, given all your tools as an Arcanist – they’re pretty OP in the leveling department.

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling

L16 Role Actions Slot III UnlockedProtect: VALUE. Rearrange your Role Actions to have this one in the first slot. Free defense and magic defense for no cost. Always keep this up, solo, in a party, raid…

L17 Unlocks - Challenge Log

L18 Skill UnlockedResurrection: Good ‘ol rez. It can be used in combat but the cast time is staggering. It’s best used in tandem with Swiftcast.

L20 Role Actions Slot IV unlockedEsuna: Put this in the second slot of your Role Actions. Esuna clears removable debuffs – they’re noted by a white line above the debuff icon.

L20 Trait Unlocked – Aetherdam II: Adds another Aetherflow charge for a total of 2. A notable passive to remind you of, especially since Bane is now in the mix.

L20 ACN Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Arcanists’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot V unlockedLucid Dreaming: Put this in the third slot of your Role Actions. Lucid Dreaming is a great source of mid-combat MP Regeneration.

L25 ACN Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks – Arcanists’ Guild.

L26 Skill UnlockedBio II: Your Bio automatically gets upgraded to Bio II to deal more damage. I ain’t complaining!

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP! It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s Summoner or Scholar (SMN or SCH)! The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are simply finishing ALL ACN class quests up to level 30.

L30 Class quest unlocksBane, and the prereq for Summoner or Scholar:

Bane: Oh BOY. Finally! Bane SPREADS all your DoT’s afflicting your target, to all nearby enemies. This is an amazing AoE skill in dungeons at the low low cost of 1 Aetherflow. Keep in mind that DoT’s have a short settling time – BE SURE TO SEE IT ON THE ENEMY BEFORE YOU BANE. You’ll get what I mean in due time, once you’ve made this mistake enough times…

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Arcanist. You now have the right to become a Summoner or Scholar!

How to become a Summoner or Scholar?

(REMEMBER: You can unlock both!)

The quest to become a  Scholar is Forgotten but not Gone, found in Arcanists’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the Scholar, and Adloquium skill. Scholars are purely a healing class, specializing in shields & mitigation. Your eventual Guildmaster is still located in Limsa.

The quest to become a Summoner is Austerities of Flame, also in the Arcanists’ Guild.  This gives you the Soul of the Summoner and Summon III skill. Summoners are a DoT and pet-based caster class. Get ready to stretch your keybinds. Your eventual guildmaster is located in Gridania.

(Gaining EXP as SCH counts towards SMN and vice versa!)

Arcanist leveling OP - read before you proceed

Soul of the Summoner or Scholar is your job soul crystal. To become a Summoner or Scholar you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Arcanist again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Arcanist! Congrats! Feel free to proceed to the Summoner or Scholar Leveling Guide. Hopefully our Arcanist Leveling Guide helped you out

Archer Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

Just became an Archer, huh? Start sniping your hunting log. A level one character doing hunting logs + participating in level appropriate FATES is super value THIS EARLY IN. The entire ARC Tier 1 hunting log can be found in Central and North Shroud. (You can do this while queued up for POTD).

You can refer to the table above regarding “what to do” after that.

L1 Skill UnlockedHeavy Shot: For all intents and purposes – your basic attack.

L2 Skill UnlockedStraight Shot: Gives a passive bonus to critical strike chance when you do it. Always keep this buff up on yourself!

L4 Skill UnlockedRaging Strikes: A hefty DPS cooldown. Use it on large packs, or on fat guys.

L5 ARC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Archers’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a Bard).

L6 Skill UnlockedVenomous Bite: Your first Damage over Time (DoT) skill! Always open with this (or refresh it) if the enemy is going to survive for more than a few attacks.

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Trait UnlockedHeavier Shot: There’s a small chance your Heavy Shot causes your next Straight Shot to be an auto-crit. This is easily indicated by your Straight Shot icon blinking. It would be good practice to have this very obvious in your HUD.

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedSecond Wind: No choice but to pick this one up – it’s great for soloing in any case. A self-heal is always welcome, and every little bit of downtime reduced, or death prevented, is value.

L10 Skill UnlockedMisery’s End: An “execute” that can only be done when the target is low. Use whenever able.

L10 ARC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Archers’ Guild.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Skill UnlockedBloodletter: A very important “off-gcd” (OGCD) skill. Use it as often as you can since it’s “free”. It’s a significant part of your future rotation – I suggest making it very obvious in your HUD when Bloodletter is available to use.

L12 Role Action slot II unlocked Foot Graze: Pretty terrible for soloing. Has a niche use to bind enemies so they cant attack you while you interact. Not too important of a skill, don’t stress out to find a good bind for it.

L15 ARC Class Quest unlocks Repelling Shot: check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Archers’ Guild.

Repelling Shot is a repositioning skill that has only a few niche practical uses. While soloing, just use it to “prevent getting hit for a bit”. It’s useful in raids to quickly spread out from your friends.

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling

L16 Role Action Slot III UnlockedLeg Graze: Not too bad for soloing tougher mobs, but admittedly quite poor overall. You don’t have much of a choice but put it in your role actions for now, but like its predecessor don’t stress out to find a good bind for it.

L18 Skill UnlockedQuick Nock: Your first Area of Effect (AoE) skill. It does good damage on packs larger than 3. Be wary of its hefty TP cost. It has a deceptively long reach (much more than the skill shows), but the cone isn’t as wide as people initially presume.

L20 Role Actions Slot IV unlockedPeleton: AMAZING for soloing (dungeons too) and movement in general. It has a small cooldown so use it ALWAYS. You’ll be surprised how much time this cuts in towns, and in scenarios wherein you wouldn’t want to mount up. Keep note it doesn’t stack with Sprint.

L20 ARC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Archers’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot V unlockedInvigorate: Sickeningly good for dungeons (where spamming Quick Nock happens alot), Invigorate is part of many DPS classes repertoire in the endgame.

L25 ARC Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Archers’ Guild.

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP! It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s Bard (BRD)! The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are simply finishing ALL ARC class quests up to level 30.

L30 Class quest unlocks Windbite, and the prereq for Bard:

Windbite: is your other DoT skill – Windbite and Venomous Bite play a vital role in Bard DPS. Open with both DoTs and refresh them if the enemy will live for more than a few hits.

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Archer. You now have the right to become a Bard!

How to become a Bard?

The quest to become a Bard is A Song of Bards and Bowmen, found in Archers’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the Bard, and Mage’s Ballad skill.

Soul of the Bard is your job soul crystal. To become a Bard you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Archer again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Archer! Congrats! Feel free to proceed to the Bard Leveling Guide. Hopefully our Archer Leveling Guide helped you out. May your arrows always find their mark!

EXP Grinding Methods
Bonus EXP and other EXP effects

Last but not least of these reminders, always logout at a sanctuary. It’s noted by the moon icon on the right side of your EXP bar. You gain rested EXP in these areas!

Conjurer Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

L1 Skill Unlocked Stone: Your bread and butter damage spell. This is pretty much your “basic attack”.

L2 Skill UnlockedCure: Your first heal, but by no means worst! It’s super mana efficient – and this remains true for all of time!

L4 Skill UnlockedAero: Damage over time (DoT) spell. Don’t use or refresh it on enemies that die very quickly. For the most part, it’s a great spell to open fights with.

L5 CNJ Class Questcheck in on your guildmaster, E-Sumi-Yan, in Old Gridania – Conjurers’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a White Mage).

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedCleric Stance. This has “some” use leveling up… It’s not the best but it’s something… 5% isn’t relevant this early on.

L10 CNJ Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Conjurers’ Guild.

L10 Skill UnlockedMedica: Is your basic Area of Effect (AoE). The AoE centers around you. Usually only good when at least 3 people need a heal.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Skill UnlockedRaise: Resurrects a dead ally, but has a hefty cast time. Rumored butt buddy of Swiftcast.

L12 Role Action slot II unlocked – Break: I have mixed feelings for this. It’s great as an opener, but would you do it over Stone? Even in a raid scenario, it’s very unlikely that this is the best source of the Heavy debuff. Overall it’s quite poor.

L15 CNJ Class Quest unlocks Fluid Aura: check in on your guildmaster in Gridania – Conjurers’ Guild.

Fluid Aura pushes an enemy away from you. Great for interrupting while soloing. Be wary using this in dungeons as repositioning annoys people. In the case of dungeons, it’s great for pushing ranged mobs towards tanks, and interrupting mobs near walls for minimal movement.

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling

L16 Role Actions Slot III unlockedProtect: FREE PASSIVE DEFENSES! Reconfigure your role skills as to put this at the very first slot. Needless to say keep it up on yourself (and your party members) at all times.

L17 Unlocks - Challenge Log

L18 Skill UnlockedStone II: Replaces Stone as your basic DPS skill. Nothing fancy, just a (VERY WELCOME) increase in damage.

L20 Role Actions Slot III unlockedEsuna: is “only useful when it’s useful”. Removing debuffs doesn’t happen often but you’ll be thankful you had Esuna when it does happen. Put this on the second slot.

L20 CNJ Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Old Gridania – Conjurers’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot III unlockedLucid Dreaming: is your best friend. Provides a large mana regeneration buff. Put it on the third slot.

L25 CNJ Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Old Gridania – Conjurers’ Guild.

L26 Skill UnlockedRepose: Sleeps an enemy (it wakes up if you hit it). Useful for quests where you interact with things, preventing mobs from bothering you. Doesn’t see much use these days.

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP! It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s White Mage (WHM)!
The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are simply finishing ALL CNJ class quests up to level 30.

L30 Job quest unlocksCure II, and the prereq for White Mage (WHM).

Cure II: Is your “big heal”, it is not as mana efficient as CI but it gives a chunky amount of healing. When to use Cure I or Cure II is a bit of a topic, but let me simplify it for now by saying “Either your tank is taking massive damage, or you wanna save a GCD”.

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Conjurer. You now have the right to become a White Mage!

How to become a White Mage?

The quest to become a White Mage is Seer Folly, found in Conjurers’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the White Mage, and Presence of Mind skill.

Soul of the White Mage is your job soul crystal. To become a White Mage you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Conjurer again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Conjurer! Congrats! Feel free to proceed to the White Mage Leveling Guide. Hopefully, our CNJ Leveling Guide helped you out. I main White Mage (and play all healers), lemme tell you that this is a rewarding path you chose!

FFXIV Marauder (MRD) Leveling Guide

How to level up your Marauder (MRD) fast! Learn all about your skills, role actions, and how to level up HERE!

So you’ve taken up the Axe? Well, more tanks in the world is a good thing! If you’re here, you’re in need of advice leveling up your MRD, no? Well, this is our Marauder Leveling Guide so you’ve found the right place!

This page is strictly for Marauder – focusing more on MRD specific info like skills, traits, and playstyle notes. The GENERAL PROCESS that you should be following is outlined in our GENERAL LEVELING GUIDE: Which you should be using ALONGSIDE THIS GUIDE.

Marauder: Unlocking, and other basics

Leveling Methods, References and Reminders

In these boxes, I’ll put info that you’ll likely be referring to (or discovering) while leveling up your Marauder.

EXP Grinding Methods
Bonus EXP and other EXP effects

Last but not least of these reminders, always logout at a sanctuary. It’s noted by the moon icon on the right side of your EXP bar. You gain rested EXP in these areas!

Marauder Leveling – 01 to 30

If this is your first character:
MAIN SCENARIO QUEST IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.

If you’re fresh Marauder – go start up with your hunting log. A level one character doing hunting logs + participating in level appropriate FATES isn’t bad this early on. For MRD’s, all Tier 1 log entries are in Lower and Middle La Noscea. (You can do this while queued up for POTD).

After this early burst, refer to the table above for “what to do”.

L1 Skill UnlockedHeavy Swing: For all intents and purposes – your basic attack.

L4 Skill Unlocked – Skull Sunder: Combos from Heavy Swing, this is the very cute beginnings of your future rotation. It has a secondary effect of generating more enmity.

L5 MRD Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks – Marauders’ Guild. These spawn every 5 levels up until 50, and can give you notable rewards (besides, you NEED to do them to become a Warrior).

L6 Skill Unlocked – Berserk: Is a substantial DPS increase cooldown. Use it on fat enemies and groups. Well, I guess if you’re soloing use it as often as practically possible…

L8 Role Actions unlocked!

L8 Role Action slot I unlockedRampart: Is a generic toughness boosting cooldown. It’s basic, but its one of the best role actions for us. Use it often in dungeons, at the beginning of new pulls and during bosses.

L10 Skill Unlocked – Overpower: Your very first AoE skill (and a great one at that). Best used in packs of 3 or more, but in the early levels it’s justified using it on two guys. It consumes quite a bit of TP so be wary of that.

L10 MRD Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Upper Decks – Marauders’ Guild.

L10 Hmm... Guildhests?

L12 Role Action slot II unlockedLow Blow: Is amazing. Its primary use is interrupting annoying AoE from mobs. However, one oft forgotten purpose of stun is damage mitigation. A stunned guy won’t hit you! Simple as that! Stunning a guy in a pack of 3 (common in dungeons) reduces damage taken by 33%!

L15 MRD Class Quest unlocks Tomahawk: check in on your guildmaster in Limsa – Marauders’ Guild.

Tomahawk: A ranged attack great for pulling dungeons and raid bosses. Use it to get an extra hit in while approaching your target.

L15 Unlocks - Duty Roulette Leveling
Tanking Gear and YOU

L16 Role Actions Slot III UnlockedProvoke: is a godlike tank role action, and one you should familiarize yourself with as early as now. It gives you top enmity on a target mob, but only by a single point. Always follow it up right after – the usual is Provoke into Tomahawk. While it’s crap for soloing, it’s a MUST HAVE in any other type of content.

L17 Unlocks - Challenge Log

L18 Skill Unlocked – Maim: Combos from Heavy Swing. If you need to purely do damage, Maim beats Skull Sunder for that purpose. Only use Skull Sunder in dungeons WHEN YOU NEED ENMITY. Maim also gives the enemy a debuff of -10% slashing damage resistance which means MORE DAMAGE FOR ALL OF OUR SKILLS! Always keep this buff up on enemies, especially bosses.

L20 Role Actions Slot IV unlockedConvalescence:  increases incoming heals. It’s obviously quite bad as we don’t really have access to healing skills right now (it does affect your healer Chocobo!).

L20 MRD Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks – Marauders’ Guild.

L24 Role Actions Slot V unlockedAnticipation: Increases parry rate. This is an amazing cooldown when facing 3 or more mobs. Against bosses, however, you shouldn’t rely on it.

L25 MRD Class Quest – check in on your guildmaster in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks – Marauders’ Guild.

L26 Skill UnlockedThrill of Battle: A defensive cooldown which beefs up your max life and heals you for the same amount. It’s pretty good, and will be useful for the rest of your Warrior career. It’s one of the few skills that compound very well with other defensive cooldowns – ramping up your effective HP enormously.

Once you hit level 30 FULL STOP! It’s time you evolve into a job class – in your case that’s Warrior (WAR)! The prerequisites to unlocking the quest are simply finishing ALL MRD class quests up to level 30.

L30 Class quest unlocksButcher’s Block, and the prereq for Warrior:

Butcher’s Block: Your first combo finisher! So your single target rotation now goes back to Heavy Swing > Skull Sunder > Butcher’s Block. Don’t ignore Maim though, it’s great for bosses – and if you have other slashing characters in your party (DRK, SAM, NIN etc…).

Completing this quest marks your final class quest as Marauder. You now have the right to become a Warrior!

How to become a Warrior?

The quest to become a Warrior is Pride and Duty (Will Take You from the Mountain), found in Marauders’ Guild. Completing this quest gives you Soul of the Warrior, and Defiance skill. (I know, that quest name seems long, but I promise you that’s not a typo)

Soul of the Warrior is your job soul crystal. To become a Warrior you merely have to equip it (it’s on the lower right most equipment slot). Equipping the soul crystal is a tiny bit of a hassle since you have to rebind your skills, and reconfigure your equipment set. But it’s okay since you’ll likely never be a Marauder again.

And with that YOU’RE DONE WITH LEVELING Marauder! Congrats! Feel free to proceed to the Warrior Leveling Guide. Hopefully our Marauder Leveling Guide helped you out – Patience friend, you’ll be Fell Cleaving soon enough.
