FFXIV 3.2 Paladin (PLD) Best in Slot (BiS) Gear

3.2 UPDATED! PLD Best in slot guide! “THE SHIELD IS BACK!”. PLD Lore buy order, Melding, Pages & Normals, more!

SO! Being the meat shield they need and deserve, huh? Paladin BiS for 2.4 is here!! Before anything else I feel that this BiS list I made is possibly the set with the absolute LEAST waste of stats. This BiS has parry favored, and has ZERO additional skill speed. This best-in-slot gear list for Paladin I feel is extremely balanced (Doesn’t need food for acc cap). Check it out!

Tank BiS disclaimer: Do you need parry, or do you need to DPS? If you’re interested in the DPS counterpart, check out the WAR BiS. It’s still functional for Paladin.

The above set and melds bring you to 518 Accuracy, 40 short of cap. This missing 40 Accuracy can be obtained through a mix of many means:

Melding: You have 10 free melding slots. 6x Heavens Eye III or 4x Heavens Eye IV (+ a little) solves this.
Excalibur/Aegis Shield Zeta: Can hold a maximum of 53 Accuracy (but more realistically 20ish.
Food: 10 to 12 from Popoto Pancakes if needed.
Lazy? Poor? Switch Belt: From Dreadwyrm to Ironworks gives you a huge boost to accuracy (22)

More on the Belt: I personally would use the belt for my own paladin and potentially save a megaton of gil for melding. Using the belt brings us to a base accuracy of 540, and we would only need 3x Heavens Eye III to cap! So my melds would looks something like this:

3x Accessories: STR IV – STR IV – STR III – ACC III – FREE
2x Accessores: STR IV – STR IV – STR III – FREE – FREE

This way you gain the most value (+STR, capping accuracy), while leaving up the free slots for when you have more gil to spare!

Hey, I use both tanks? It’s perfectly fine to use one set of crafted right side for both tanks. You don’t want to meld away like a hundred million gil right… The most important part of these accessories are they are AT or MAXED OUT on PRIMARY STATS (VIT & STR). Any stat melded into after those are really pale in comparison to the functionality those two give (withholding accuracy to realistic numbers)

2.4 PLD Poetics Tomes Buy Order

If you’re wondering whats the Paladin Poetics tomes buy order…

  • Chest (Dread in T13)
  • Legs (Dread in T12)
  • Shield is an awesome pseudo filler (Dread in T12)
    • This isn’t BiS but is 99% there.
  • Gauntlets (No ACC, careful when buying these…)
  • Belt (Dread in T11)
  • Rest are OPTIONAL
  • Earrings (Dread in T11)
  • Ring (Forced)(T10 Drop)
  • Bracelet (Use HA in the meantime: True Ice sucks)
  • Rest is Optional (Notes on weapon below)

Paladin should aim to get the Poetics weapon VERY LATE, as you will need a massive amount of tomes + T11 tome drop + t12 carbontwine for it to be significantly better than HA Blade.

Spending poetics on left side first is extremely viable since the raw +DEF and +MDEF (+VIT and +STR too) heavily outweight accessory purchases.

2.4 PLD Crafted Gear Viability

The Platinum crafted 110 are BiS for the sheer value they give (+STR). Below is a table for using and melding your Wootz Plate set.  For newer tanks/alts here’s a rundown of the body pieces. Again melds with * are “free slots”.

Cost Effective Wootz Melds for EHP / Mitigation Tanking (110 Crafted)

Kirimu Breeches of FendingACC IVACC IV*ACC III*PARRY III*PARRY III

Which Wootz crafted pieces should EHP Paladins get first? Honestly, skip the legs and chest if you aren’t in a hurry. Helm, Boots and Gloves are all pretty solid.

  1. Thanks for this wonderful guide! I probably already know the answer, but are you going to making a guide for 3.4 as well? If so, when can we expect it?

      1. Well it depends on if you want a high or a low Sks build, if you get a 2.35 gcd on DRK, you can get an extra gcd in BW, which is very useful. that takes 750 sks iirc, and if you can’t reach that or higher, you shouldn’t take any. I have seen two builds, and personally I prefer the high sks build.

    1. Eh? That’s downright impossible. Those little green circles below the stats are materia slots. Each gear with at least 1 slot has a total hidden 5 slots.
