MIN & BTN Leveling Guides updated. Other notes...

Botanist Leveling to 90, as well as Miner Leveling to 90 are updated for the Endwalker tier. Older tiers needs some fixing, although I modernized what I could quickly – I placed the important notes on the top of the aforementioned guides reflecting the major things that you need to take note of.

I will post a personal update soon, for those that are curious…

>> Important: UNLOCK MOOGLE BEAST TRIBE! <<
Moogle Beast Tribe Quests (Daily): Help muscle past 50 to 53!

The introduction of Moogle Beast Tribe quests gives us possibly the “best” method to help our struggling crafters past the extremely difficult L50 to L53 phase.

Starting Quest: Tricks and Stones
NPC & Location: Seething Stonemason, Churning Mists (27, 34)
Prerequisite MSQ: Into the Aery
Prerequisite Sidequests: Laying the First Brick.

Why do Moogle Dailies? They’re EXTREMELY EASY, FREE, FAST, and provide A CHUNK OF EXP – especially useful for the early 3.0 levels, namely 50 to about 53 (before you get a complete set of 3.0 DoH Gear).

The EXP is gained on the class you triggered the quest with – you cannot switch class after completion and get exp on that one, so be careful.

Unlocking this can be a HUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT. There’s about 2.7 billion prerequisite quests – especially painful for those who didn’t quest in Churning Mists. Good luck.

I highly suggest saving these for your lowest level crafter, or to get past “difficult tiers”. Once all of your crafters are past 53, spend them freely or on your highest level crafter!

To those who are familiar with the previous tiers Ixal quests, MOOGLE QUESTS ARE MUCH SIMPLER. There’s no combat or forced gathering involved.

Before you begin LTW 50+

  • Go to the Leatherworker guild in Gridania, and get your quest to point you to your new quest giver.
  • It’s now in Ishgard! Elde (Jewelled Crozier) is your quest giver… and client!
  • You get 3 Commercial Issue Crafting Manuals: Use them wisely! Read the damn tooltip.
  • Reminder: DO YOUR GC TURN-IN EVERYDAY. The EXP is worth the skin off your own back.
  • Go to Ishgard and complete the quest “Inscrutable Tastes“. It unlocks the Scrip turn-in system.

Crafting Scrips, turn-ins and your Leatherworker:

So how does this all work? Basically, you craft Collectibles and hand them in for EXP, and later on, Scrips. This acts like a ‘free’ levequest! It’s infinitely repeatable – as long as you can afford to make the items. How do you craft a collectible? Using the skill Collectible Synthesis gives you a status effect wherein anything you craft will end up as a collectible.

UNLIKE NORMAL CRAFTING HQ% doesn’t matter. An items collectability is defined by its quality upon completion. So you don’t need to “HQ” everything you craft – just make sure you reach the minimum collectability! When you’re done, you’re prompted to keep the item as a collectible, or complete the synthesis normally. These items cannot be stacked, sold or traded. You may also “lower” an item from a collectible to a regular item!

Leatherworking Level 50 to 52

Leveling up your retainer (Battle class) is EXTREME value for Leatherworker (and other DoH)

LTW 50 Levequest comparison:

  • Archaeoskin Belt of Striking: The clear cut winner in this tier for cost-efficiency.
  • Archaeoskin Jackboots of Gathering: No…
  • Archaeoskin Gloves of Aiming:(R) Not bad if you’d prefer triples.

What I did in this tier: Before you go any further please note – the difference between 50 and 51 is huge. You get a significant bonus in ease of crafting 3.0 recipes once you hit 51. If you have a retainer who can do ventures, may as well get a few Archaeornis Skin.

In terms of levequests, the Belt of Striking is just hands down the best. While none of them are really stinky, it’s just the belt is so cheap. If you prefer triples, the Gloves of Aiming aren’t so painful.

LTW 52,53 Gear Check: Depending on how solid your DOH gear was coming into 50+, upgrading your Mainhand at L52 to Mythrite LTW Knife, and Offhand at 53 to Mythrite Awl is a significant gain in stats. Just as HQ Rainbow Coatee. These three slots contain the bulk of your stats – don’t bother with the other items just yet.

Leatherworking Level 52 to 54

LTW 52 Levequest comparison:

  • Wyvernskin Mane of Fending: Good, closely linked to the next leve.
  • Wyvern Leather: May be tough for you to HQ on your own.
  • Wyvernskin Belt of Scouting:(R) Cheap, but you may not like triples.

Any leve is good here – read the notes below

What I did in this tier: Just gonna casually remind ya about the 52 and 53 gear upgrades noted above. I started this tier by making a TON of Wyvern Leather. Like seriously make as many as you can afford (Retainers, again…).

Of these Wyvern Leathers you can choose to do ANYTHING with them (just make sure to save a few for yourself)

  1. I utilized the NQ leathers to create HQ Mane of Fending or Belt of Scouting
  2. Turn in a few of the HQ’s for the straight Wyvern Leather Leve.
  3. If you’re having a tough time, use HQ leathers for the Mane/Belt.

I can’t personally advise you what to do since every players stats/situation are quite different at this point. Just use the above data points to help you choose what’s best for you. This tier is quite painless anyway.

Leatherworking Level 54 to 56

LTW 54 Levequest comparison:

  • Dhalmelskin Leggings of Aiming: Price factor – Titanium Nugget.
  • Dhalmelskin Vest: Price factor – Hardsilver Nugget & Lots of Ramie.
  • Dhalmelskin Breeches of Maiming:(R) Price factor: Extra Dhalmel, Wyvern.

What I did in this tier: I’ll say it again… retainers retainers… Dhalmelskin price varies wildly so your personal happiness may vary too.

In this tier all the leves are very similar, with only a few items setting the difference of price between each other. As I noted above, those are the main differences between each leve. I chose the vest since I had a lot of Ramie/Hardsilver at the time (and no Titanium).

As much as I’d like to give a clear answer here, I really can’t. But here’s some small advice:

  1. Leggings: have the least components, so least hassle. (Rubber is meh)
  2. Vest has the most components, bad if Ramie is expensive.
  3. Breeches good if you have leftover Wyvern Leather (but costs +1 Dhalmel)

so go on ahead and to the calculations when you’re about to head into this tier.

LTW Level 56 – Scrip tier collectibles: Once you hit 56 you’ve now entered the scrip tier! Trust me on this, you’re going to need ALOT of these guys. LTW may not be the best scrip class, but the mats are easy to come by via retainers so it’s quite “friction-less”, even if the value isn’t too hot.

Leatherworking Level 56 to 58

LTW 56 Levequest comparison:

  • Dragonskin Wristbands: Cheap, value EXP – but may be difficult.
  • Dragonskin Gloves of Healing: TOO EXPENSIVE.
  • Dragon Leather:(R) Decent baseline type of leve.

What I did in this tier: Just like any tier (or more similarly to the 52 tier) I started with crafting a ton of Dragon Leathers. I used NQ ones to attempt making HQ Wristbands.

The only problem with this strategy is the base difficulty of Wristband. It’s a 58 craft so you may need some luck or all HQ mats for it. If it proves too much, simply spam the Dragon Leathers! Other than that, there isn’t much else to note about this tier.

Technically speaking, the less  I have to write about a tier, the better it is for us…

Leatherworking Level 58 to 60

LTW 58 Levequest comparison:

  • Serpentskin Armguards of Maiming: Heh.
  • Serpentskin Ringbelt of Aiming: Very slimly the ‘least disgusting’ leve.
  • Serpentskin Thighboots of Casting:(R) Heh.

LTW is smooth sailing up to this point. Welcome to hell.

What I did in this tier: Guys, take it easy in this tier. Take your time and you should do fine! Rushing this tier will result in a loss of either happiness or gil. If you’re rich, go and rush it – because happiness ain’t cheap!

What I personally did: was use up all my three (or more) Commercial Issue Engineering Manual here. Simply grind on a bunch of Dragon Leather and Amphiptere Leather. Aside from this you can:

  1. Do GC turn-ins for a few days
  2. Do older leves
  3. Grind on Dragon / Amp Leather (I did a lot of this)
  4. Use your Company Issue Engineering Manual
  5. Save up for a fresh chunk of crafting logs (Weekly Reset)

Whatever you choose, it’s probably gonna sacrifice either SPEED, EFFICIENCY or GIL (+sanity). It’s times and tiers like these that I have to face that there’s no one real best way to advise everyone all the time. Good luck on the last stretch to 60!

Made it by the skin of your teeth in the Heavensward tier, hyg! Grats on hitting 60 LTW! Always remember what Elde taught you… Tradition should never stop you from trying!  For more awesome FFXIV updates, Like us on Facebook!

  1. Just wondering if you will update the DoH class quest item reference for level 63 and above? Maybe compile it in one section like you did for level 1 – 50?

  2. You might want to amend in some way the LTW HW quest item. The actual recipe name is the “Chivalric Longcoat of Aiming”. The autofill name at Gamer Escape *is* “Chivalric Battlecoat of Aiming” (and your link redirects to the Gamer Escape main page, looks like xovdb.com is gone but redirecting there). But, again, anyone just looking for the recipe in their LTW Master 3 book will find “longcoat”, not “battlecoat”.

  3. Note that you cannot just cut and paste the macros–whatever publishing software is being used replaces single and double quotes with ones that are “prettier”, but which don’t work

  4. The ‘Swallowskin Shoes of Healing’ lvl78 triple leve give 7,019,030 exp per hand in. As everyone else says too; these guides are the best. I love DoH and DoL but I’m honestly not sure if I’d still play FFXIV if it wasn’t for your help breaking through the grind.

    1. I tried using this but I couldn’t follow it. I have no idea where to even start looking at the LTW 1 LEVE with something called The Bannock? I couldn’t find a Bannock anywhere on the gridania map. Where are we supposed to go to find the leve quests? The quest giver in the leatherworking place has a red mark over its head.

  5. First off I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick question in which I’d
like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear
your head prior to writing. I’ve had trouble clearing my mind in getting my
thoughts out. I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to
15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas
    or tips? Cheers!

    1. Oh man, I really don’t know… It takes practice though I’ve been doing it for years haha – but I always want to improve. My methods back then differ greatly from now. My only suggestion is to BEGIN somewhere, and remember to improve upon your tactics every so often! PM me on Tonberry – Mahiko San, if you wanna talk about it!

  6. You deserve a kudos for this guide, most are boring as hell to read, and tedious to remember, this is written in a way that gamers will find both amusing and informative, good job *insert a thumbs up emoji here, cus why the hell not*

  7. Just a small correction, for the level 64 leve quests Tiger Leather and Tigerskin boots are swapped. Tigerskin boots are actually for the single turn in Shoe on the other foot, and Tiger Leather is used for the Triple Turn in Tiger in the Sack.

  8. For the ltw from lvl 56 you can turn in Dhalmel leather as collectable… imo, it’s the cheapest way to lvl up from 56 to 60. (Also happens with other jobs, like the WVR with Ramie cloth)
You get a bunch of dhalmel hides from reatiner and the dark chestnut logs gathered from forelands… then it’s just 2 or 3 hours of crafting with macros. (I used the 2.0 bis and the blue scrips chest)

  9. this is a basic shopping list for the recipes 1-15, feel free to use it to update your page

    1. Thank you mizuki, this is one of the things I’ve been struggling to update given the amount of updates I have to do. I’ll integrate this once I test and format the guides to the “new standard”! Thank you!

  10. The courier and local leves at 35 are mixed up; the courier leve requests boarskin ringband while the local leve “Soft Shoe Shuffle” requires the peisteskin crakows

  11. You absolutely need to update this and fix this, it’s been over a year since Katherine pointed out the Hard Leather Cesti bit and you haven’t done anything about it.

  12. I don’t really understand the automatic hostility towards precursor leves. I can understand how they -can- be expensive, but out of hand? The level 25 leve for Padded Leather Duckbills is made completely out of vendor items. In a set of leves full of Aldgoat leather, expensive items from other tradeskills, and generally simply not things that can be obtained from a vendor, the Padded Leather Duckbills are far and away the cheapest option there, even if consuming more shards than the other ones.

    1. Now that would completely depend on server prices and may fluctuate greatly. Like mentioned in all guides please use discretion. This block of text isn’t the LAW, but truly a GUIDE. As such, your input is appreciated and may provide insight for others in the future.

The recommendations are the “likely” cheapest given many factors :)

  13. This one and a lot of guides here are just bad and need to reworked. So many instances where it rejects a leve because an item may be expensive/difficult to craft while at the same time suggesting to do the actual expensive (and tedious with minimal reward) repeatable leves. About the only thing they’re good for is a reference for which are the courier leves because that’s gonna be the best and fastest exp, but even then the information is inaccurate in places, like the 35-40 courier which actually asks for Boarskin Ringbands. A comment mentioned it but I didn’t look down to read it and I had already wasted time and leves making crakows before realizing the error.

    1. COURIER will ALWAYS yield the highest exp.. what’s the sacrifice? Time. At level 35+, courier can take a looooooooong while due to travelling.

  14. Just a heads up about the level 20 leves: the Hard Leather Cesti is made using ALDGOAT Leather, NOT Hard Leather as the name might imply. Aldgoat Leather has to be crafted and cannot be obtained from NPCs AFAIK. So this might affect which leve is best for this leveling stretch.

Otherwise, this guide is very useful. Thanks so much for posting it!
