Back again to level your ALC to 80 in the Shadowbringers tier? Well, let’s get right to it…

Alchemist L70 to L71 – The Deadzone

The first level of any new tier is a little brutal – and hard for me to account for since everyone has different stats coming in. If you are strong enough to not feel the deadzone, great! But I’m writing this initial segment under the assumption of the “mild worst cases”.

I'm desperate: yellow scrip gear?

Should I get Level 70 Yellow Scrip Gear?

If you have the yellow scrip, why not?! I can’t universally recommend this as not everyone will have scrip by the time they reach this point. The only downside with scrip gear is the low CP. I, preferably, would buy Armor pieces > Weapon > and skip accessories.

What’s important is you reach the stats outlined in the
L71 gear update later on.

I call this the deadzone for many reasons, but let’s focus on getting out of it!

Beating the Deadzone: Sources of EXP

Here we outline the practical (or hopefully practical) sources of EXP to help muscle through this tough stretch.

Daily GC Submission

From here, and into the untold ages to come, the Daily GC Submission is VALUE. It’s, on average, worth more than the usual levequest. The starred entries are too massive to even describe.

Even if you can’t make these yourselves, check the MB for deals, or buy them straight up NQ from NPC’s if you’re desperate.

To check these, click CTRL+U (default) > Next Mission Allowance.

Levequests!?

Levequests are, of course, the main method of EXP gain as always – HOWEVER, you may not be able to craft them yourself! If you cannot (I’ll give you a rotation down there to try), then, well…

You’re either forced to buy from the MB or NPC’s. This feels really bad, and if you’re on a budget, this is not the way to go. Hopefully, you find some good deals!

If you CAN make stuff then the deadzone ain’t so dead after all

CUSTOM DELIVERIES!!!

Ok this is valuetown right here, and one of the prime methods to get out of the deadzone – BUT IT RESETS WEEKLY so choose wisely. Personally, I didn’t use this on any class above 71 until all were 71 or more.

You have 12 deliveries a week spread between:

  • Zhloe Alpaioh and Adkiragh in Idyllshire
  • Mnaago in Rhalgrs Reach
  • Kurenai in Ruby Sea

Note that these 12 allowances are shared between ALL DOH/DOL classes.

Grinding

Using Revised Engineering Manuals!

Can be pretty okay, honestly! You don’t need to hit HQ! Just get the best quality you can on any “ingot type” craft, for future use on levequest items or your stockpile.

In the case of Alchemist L70, you can try out Enchanted Truegold Ink and Crimson Firesand.

And finally, one more source of EXP worth mentioning in its own segment…

Unlock Crystarium Deliveries “Class Quests”

This is a new thing (not to be confused with custom deliveries), that acts like a shared class quest between certain classes. In the case of Alchemist, it  shares with Culinarian in the Facet of Nourishing.

UnlockingHow does it Work?

It’s a 2 quest process to unlock this.

  • 1st Quest: The Crystalline Mean (L70) – Area: The Crystarium
  • Requires: MSQ “The Crystarium’s Resolve (L72)”.
  • 2nd Quest: Friends of a Feather (L70) – Area: The Crystarium
  • Requires: The Crystalline Mean (the 1st quest listed above)

You can submit SIX ITEMS PER TIER PER FACET – shared between your facetmates. So try to save them up to burst through shitty tiers.

After six submissions your esteem goes up and they’re gonna ask for a new set of six items at L73, 75, and 78.

In the case of ALC 70, I’d suggest simply splitting it up between the shared classes, meaning 3 each for ALC and Culinarian, to help get out of the Dead Zone.

Alchemist L70 Levequests

I’ll put the levequest table here, but I’ll repeat it in the next segment with complete discussion (I’ll put a basic recommendation here) – since not all L70 crafters will be able to reliably make it themselves…

ALC 70 Levequests

Again, discussion for these is in the next major segment, L71.

I don’t expect great things from this rotation. Use food buffs for CP/craftsmanship or whatever… I can’t possibly know your stats, so try it out, edit it…

Your best bet to help you out is CP food from the vendor in Crystarium.
Blood Bouillabaisse or Blood Tomato Salad.

Crafting 80 durability (L71 ITEMS!) is gonna be tough, so I DO NOT HAVE AN 80 DUR ROTATION that tries to HQ. Only a 40! Since NQ “ingots” are very much USABLE whereas NQ “complete items” are pretty useless!

“This rotation can be optimized!”
Sure! If I knew your stats right now, and your goals…

Given all the unknowns – it’s the best I can do. Things will definitely look up once you find your way to L71.

COLLECTABLES – Especially on Alchemist!

Keep an eye out for collectables from here on out. Press CTRL+U and click on Rowena’s House of Splendors to see what’s in demand today. ALC is one of those classes that has “good” collectables (still RNG, though).

Alchemist L71 to 72

A lot goes on in this level so bear with me if it’s a bit lengthy. A majority of your setup ALL THE WAY UNTIL L80 ALC happens here, so it’s worth it. Most noteworthy are a stat-check or gear update and a new rotation that works very well until L80!

You can mix/match gear with L70 yellow scrip gear – what’s important is
you reach the base stats at the end of the table! Since the yellow scrip gear is low on CP, you might only want the armor > weapon, and taking the L71 crafted accessories!

ALC L71 Gear update notes:
Should I Upgrade?

Should you upgrade gear now? Well, If you have greater than 1613 Craftsmanship, 1539 Control, and 430 CP, ignore this gear update!

If you’re in this pile, the deadzone doesn’t exist for you!

Materia?

As I mentioned earlier, Materia VI and lower has a 100% retrieval rate AS LONG AS IT’S ON A SURE SOCKET. So feel free to cram in as much Control as you can. If you wanna edit the rotation you can even add in CP in a few slots here and there.

Control V+?

More Control only means getting closer to 100% on crafts that are ABOVE your level (although it’s pretty DAMN close to 100% even on the worst cases, crafting +3/4 levels above). The rotation you will use is tested to work (even without gear upgrades) without issue AT YOUR LEVEL, and in many cases above. Since I cannot guarantee you will stay within your level range, a little bit of control helps.

Rotation Discussion

If you have some questions about the rotation, or want to find out a little bit more about it, read up!

True 100%RELIABILITYThe BadSuccess Rates

This rotation is one of the “True 100%” ones. Including Tricks of the Trade before Byregot’s Blessing ELIMINATES the chance BB lands on a poor proc.

It works by using up any Excellent procs prior to Great Strides. If it doesn’t happen then the rotation is unaffected in any way – it simply proceeds.

Adding it to the rotation necessitates some pretty annoying sacrifices (making sure everything is OK with and without the proc), but IMO worth it.

Both rotations enjoy a very high success rate when attempting recipes “much higher” than your own. This is achieved through the use of Ingenuity during Byregot’s Blessing.

While this also adds extra CP and rotational limitations – it’s worth it purely so you don’t have to change rotation very often, while allowing you to freely craft without taking massive hits to your HQ chances.

2-buttons: Both rotations are somewhat long – but it’s not something that bothers me. The high success rate and reliability more than make up for it.

Doesn’t improve, and is at times overkill: This is a necessary evil since we’re trying to get a very high HQ chance at a wide range of levels. However, the rotation won’t ever shorten.

While you can potentially make shorter sub-rotations for lower level stuff – i find that a bit of a hassle to recommend for everyone. For the sake of ease and simplicity this rotation is STRONG AND RELIABLE, but isn’t actually the “strongest for each combination of your vs. recipe level”, what do.

Let’s start it off by showcasing the success rates even if you never edit the rotation and your gear until L80. I talked a little about these earlier, but no harm in bringing it up again.

Enchanted Truegold Ink – Is the usual PDO Leve (Great if you’re POOR, DESPERATE, or OVERCAPPED ON LEVES). They serve a purpose!

Smilodonskin Grimoire – Simply USELESS. Pure garbage since the triple uses the same exact materials – and has the option for a triple submit!? This is complete trash.

Smilodonskin Codex – Not by its own merits, but by the process of elimination this is begrudgingly the best levequest in this tier.

Smilodonskin Codex (Meh) > Enchanted Truegold Ink (PDO) >>>>> Smilodonskin Grimoire (Trash tier)

What to do in this tier?

Honestly, you don’t even need to do “this tier levequests”. What I did was grind Superior Spiritbond Potion (L72 recipe, used in leves) in advance, using revised engineering manuals.

I suppose what I would suggest for the usual person getting past this tier would be, a mix of both ways. Make inks, then submit the triple codex leve a few times – then cap it off by grinding on Superior Spiritbond Potions to 72.

L70 – 72 is the most miserable tier for ALC, so do whatever you can to get past it.

Grade 1 Dexterity Alkahest – Great EXP for such a simple recipe. Not bad. It’s technically a PDO leve, but gives some pretty good EXP!

Gliderskin Codex – Just a basic levequest. It’s not terrible, and not amazing. I struggle to think of a situation where you would go for this leve specifically.

Superior Spiritbond Potion – Pure value. This simply outshines every levequest prior to this by a quite a margin. Some people are even known to spam this to 80 (don’t do this…) It’s a triple to boot.

Superior Spiritbond Potion (Godly) >>> Grade 1 Dexterity Alkahest  (PDO) >>>>> Gliderskin Codex (Strange choice)

What to do in this tier?

Superior Spiritbond Potion is ultra cost-effective. I cannot imagine myself using any other levequest available to you.

Starch Glue – PDO leve but… strange… I would rather use the mats for the triple… If you’re PDO you’re better of with the previous tier Alkahest.

Bluespirit Codex – Pretty damn useless. I would never submit this over this tier triple. It may be more valuable than some of the previous tier leves but it’s still a way behin Superior Spiritbond Potion, and this tiers triple…

Competent Craftsman’s Syrup – This one is great. You’ll be submitting this or the previous tiers Superior Spiritbond Potion (depending on price, and how rich you are). If you can afford the mats, this levequest is damn godlike.

What to do in this tier?

Well you have two main options, both of which are great so don’t stress out.

If you can afford the mats for Competent Craftsman’s Syrup triple submits, do that. Otherwise go for the usually cheaper Superior Spiritbond Potion triples from last tier. Don’t worry – either choice is great value.

Growth Forumla Kappa – Not bad. PDO-ish levequest. They serve a purpose.

Zonureskin Grimoire – Is weirdly low EXP given the material complexity. This is simply terrible compared to this tiers triple, and looks terrible even compared to lower tier leves.

Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup – Ultra godlike godtier heavenly tier “S” mega diety level ultimate. This is the best levequest in the Shadowbringers tier for ALC so far, and is probably the best as it handily beats the L78 ones.

Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup >>>> Kappa (if PDO) >> Zonureskin Grimoire (Why!?)

What to do in this tier?

Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup is godlike EXP for the effort. I don’t know what else to say. Use previous tier triples or PDO leves if you’re strapped for cash. But, if you can manage it, this tiers triple is the pinnacle of value for ALC in the Shadowbringers tier.

Again, collectables are always an option for ALC if you wanna preserve leves so keep an eye out.

ALC 78 Levequest Discussion

Tincture of Vitality – is an absolutely useless levequest. The triple levequest uses virtually the same mats! It serves no purpose at all.

Dwarven Mythril Codex – Unless you’re reading this AFTER Shadowbringers, I don’t think this leve will be competitive with the Tincture leves at all (or at least for quite some time…)

Tincture of Mind – The absolute best levequest in this tier “on average”. Cost-effective, and a triple… what more can you ask for!

Tincture of Mind >>>>>> Dwarven Mythril Codex (niche scenarios) >> Tincture of Vitality (useless)

But the previous tiers Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup seems “too good” to pass up.

What to do in this tier?

Since ALC has many viable levequests and many viable collectables, this can go any way really. I submitted a mix of many triple leves to get rid of my extra items, and capped off to 80 continuing submitting the 76 tier triple Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup. I simply couldn’t justify using any of the L78 leves…

If you find it costly, feel free to use lower tier triples or, again, especially as ALC – always be on the lookout for great/cheap collectables. Great for saving leves and gaining scrip.

L78 has your final facet quest (while leveling), and as usual I simply split it evenly between ALC and CUL.

L80+ Alchemist, What next?

Congratulations! Well, that’s it for the Shadowbringers tier. I have yet to decide if I will revive the end-game guides, lets see. But for now enjoy your L80 Alchemist and go level your other classes!!!

  1. Hello! Just a heads up: I am currently doing the Lanolin leves in Whitebrim, and the number has been reduced to 1 lanolin per delivery, making it a 3 craft triple-leve; which is basically *amazing*.

  2. I’d like to add something to help out other people who plans to grind out lvl 15-25 using leves. It’s late I know.
For level 15-25 leves, Ash Wand can be bought from the Merchant & Mender in Central Shroud, whereas the Budding Ash Wand can be bought from the same kind of NPC in East Shroud.

  3. I’m not sure where to leave this – there doesn’t seem to be any help or support section – but I can’t click to open any of the clickboxes in most (all?) of these leveling guides. I was able to a couple days ago. It’s not working for other friends I’ve asked to try, either. A little frustrating; I can’t see the macro recommendations anymore, among other things. This website has always been so great to help with leveling jobs, could someone look into fixing this?

  4. I have been following this guide and have gotten to 64 very easily but I have a small problem…
When I go to the page for 64-70 none of the drop down menus work! I don’t know if it’s just me but I checked on 3 different browsers and had a friend even try. All the other pages work just fine. Kinda bummed because I wanted to see what to get gear wise and what cross skills I’m supposed to “FIX UP” but I can’t.

Looking forward to getting on with my progession and your answer!

  5. Hello. First off, thank you so much for this guide. I have been following it to great success.

I have noticed that some of your quotation marks for the macros do not copy+paste well into FFXIV. I have to edit every single one in order to use them. I’m NA, so not sure if it’s different in the EU/JP locale? Not a big deal, but if you care, there it is. :)

    Thanks!!

  6. I have a correction. On the alchemist level 50-60 page, there is this line:

“It’s now in Mor Dhona! Wiltaek (Revenants Toll) is your questgiver… and client!”

The NPC name is misspelled. It should be “Wiltwaek”.

  7. I know it’s early on in the class, but the materials for Roof Tiles are not all available from the Alchemy supplier. They don’t sell Straw (but you can take a quick Aethernet jaunt to the Weaver’s guild that does).

  8. Here’s a suggestion if you’re lazy like me, when you first get palace of the dead you need to spam that because it gives you HQ potions with needing to buy and it also lvls up your class for attacking so it’s a win win situation.

  9. (15-20 range) Ash Branches actually aren’t purchased from the Guild Supplier, only their logs are. But I heard something about unlocking materials…? It’s not there at-level, at least.

  10. Just wanted to throw this out there,

Lv30 Alchemist LeveQuest (Just Give Him a Serum), actually gives a little more EXP compared to the other Singles of the Lv35 Alchemist LeveQuest tier.

Just Give Him a Serum (47.8k EXP for NQ / 95.6k EXP for HQ)
Majority of Singles at Lv35 only gives roughly 41k EXP for NQ (with the exception of the Wand).

So IMO, I think it should also be in that tier considering the amount of EXP it gives and how easy the recipe is.

  11. at lvl 56 you can spam hardsilver ink collectables for cheap and fast exp, got to 60 in 2 hours and made enough blue scrips for my books

    1. Yes they should be HQ because even for class quests, if you turn in an HQ item it will give you DOUBLE the XP

  12. 53 ALC quest is HQ Enchanted Mythrite Ink (x3)
55 ALC quest is HQ Bottles of Grade 1 Intelligence Dissolvent (x3)
58 ALC quest is HQ Draconian Potion of Strength (x1)
60 ALC quest is HQ Noble Gold (x1)

  13. You might want to update the level-30-35 range that you can make Growth Formula Gamma with NPC bought materials… its just that you have to unlock them first…!
