GSM Leveling Guide 70-80

MIN & BTN Leveling Guides updated. Other notes...

Botanist Leveling to 90, as well as Miner Leveling to 90 are updated for the Endwalker tier. Older tiers needs some fixing, although I modernized what I could quickly – I placed the important notes on the top of the aforementioned guides reflecting the major things that you need to take note of.

I will post a personal update soon, for those that are curious…

ShB 5.3 UPDATED! Dwarf Beast Tribe and Ehll Tou

Recent Update Log

5.3 Updates

  • Dwarf Beast Tribe quests added in ShB tier as a notable EXP source.
  • Ehll Tou added as Custom Delivery client option.

Previous updates

  • Kai Shirr added as Custom Delivery client option in ShB tier.
  • L70 to L80 section essentially revamped: New Skills & Rotations! 5.2ish was a clusterF. Skills changed TWICE in a short span of time. All is well now!
  • L70+ Gear recommendation:  Yellow Scrip gear is now recommended, for a number of reasons (Mainly, barely need stats for 70 to 80 leveling)

GSM 70 to 80… well, get your nose back to the grindstone buddy – ’cause here we go AGAIN!

L70 to L80 DoH Beast Tribe quests: Dwarf

5.3 introduced the Dwarf Beast Tribe, which is a very welcome form of “free and easy” EXP, while getting some cool cosmetic items to boot.

Unlocking Dwarf Beast Tribe

Here’s some basics on how to unlock Dwarf Beast Tribe.

  • Location: Lakeland (9, 13)
  • Quest Name: It’s Dwarfin’ Time
  • NPC: Affable Townsdwarf
  • L70+ Disciple of the Hand

Other unlocking requirements pretty much sum up to “the blue dwarf quests in this area”. Formally, it requires “Ronitt to the Rescue”, which requires “Wright for the Job” and “Learning to Lali-Ho”, and so on. If you can’t see the quest, then knock out the blue quests around the area.

I place this Beast Tribe reminder very far up this guide not only because it’s a mid-patch addition, but also because it’s such a help to push past the dreaded “Dead Zone”. It remains a great source of EXP at any point until you that to hit L80!

Goldsmith L70 to L71 – The Deadzone

The first level of any new tier is a little brutal – and hard for me to account for since everyone has different stats coming in. The deadzone is caused by having subpar gear, and how it affects your possible activities to get past it. Fixing up your gear – getting Scrip gear – should be your highest priority at L70, as it will help ALL YOUR CRAFTERS push past the deadzone, and this gear is GOOD UNTIL LEVEL 80!

Suit up - Get Scrip gear ASAP

As mentioned above. It is SUPER VALUE to get this gear as it’s useful to you up until leveling to 80, and usable by all classes. Do Custom Deliveries to get scrip!

L70 to 71 Deadzone Rotation 80 Durability

This rotation needs 365 CP – buy Handking accessories (or any cheap ones) and/or food buffs to reach that. It’s meant to accomodate all sorts of people entering the SHB tier (with likely lower CP). Feel free to upgrade this rotation if you have more stats.

Rotation Notes

As you can see, the amount of synthesis you need here is brutal – the debuff for trying L71 as L70 is huge. It’s called the deadzone for a reason.

Also, these contain the anti-poor RNG Tricks of the Trade – which prevents your Byregot from landing on poor at all times.

The rotations are somewhat long, 2-button, and not even 100% – but that’s the nature of the deadzone for you! Let’s get out of it ASAP!

TLDR: Updating your gear is key to getting out of the deadzone, and when you do – you can use this rotation to help push out of it.

Beating the Deadzone: Sources of EXP

Here we outline the practical (or hopefully practical) sources of EXP to help muscle through this tough stretch. While many of these do not require the scrip gear mentioned above (Custom Deliveries, and easier tier GC Submissions), they will certainly help with some other activities (IE Grinding, making your own levequest items).

CUSTOM DELIVERIES!!!

Custom Deliveries.

Ok, this is valuetown right here and one of the prime methods to get out of the deadzone – BUT IT RESETS WEEKLY, so choose wisely. Personally, I didn’t use this on any class above 71 until all were 71 or more. You also get large amounts of scrip to update your gear with!

5.3 update: Ehll Tou from The Firmament joins Kai Shirr from Eulmore, as both the L70+ ShB Custom Delivery clients, so they’re your best option for maximum rewards at this point. Try to use all your allowances between them if you’re leveling 70 to 80.

You have 12 deliveries a week spread between:

  • Kai Shirr in Eulmore
  • Ehll Tou in The Firmament
  • Zhloe Alpaioh and Adkiragh in Idyllshire
  • Mnaago in Rhalgr’s Reach
  • Kurenai in Ruby Sea

Note that these 12 allowances are shared between ALL DOH/DOL classes.

Daily GC Submission

From here, and into the untold ages to come, the Daily GC Submission is VALUE. It’s, on average, worth more than the usual levequest. The starred entries are too massive to even describe.

Even if you can’t make these yourselves, check the MB for deals, or buy them straight up NQ from NPC’s if you’re desperate.

To check these, click CTRL+U (default) > Next Mission Allowance.

Levequests!?

Levequests are, of course, the main method of EXP gain as always – If you upgraded your gear, and use the rotation above (IDEALLY WITH 1 HQ MATERIAL TO PUSH FOR 100%) you can pretty reliably make them yourself.

One trick is to grind on 40 Durability “ingots”, and
use the HQ’s for your 80 Durability crafts!

If you’re lazy or don’t have the gear – you’re either forced to buy from the MB or NPC’s. This feels really bad, and if you’re on a budget this is not the way to go. Hopefully, you find some good deals!

If you CAN make stuff then the deadzone ain’t so dead after all

Grinding

Use Revised Engineering Manuals!

Can be pretty okay, honestly! You don’t need to hit HQ! Just get the best quality you can on any “ingot type” craft, for future use on levequest items or your stockpile.

In the case of Goldsmith L70, you can try out Stonegold Nugget or Stonegold Ingot.

One trick is to grind on 40 Durability “ingots”, and
use the HQ’s for your 80 Durability crafts!

And, finally, one more source of EXP worth mentioning in its own segment…

Unlock Crystarium Deliveries “Class Quests”

This is a new thing (not to be confused with custom deliveries), that acts like a shared class quest between certain classes. In the case of Goldsmith, that’s shares with BSM and ARM in the Facet of Forging.

UnlockingHow does it Work?

It’s a 2 quest process to unlock this.

  • 1st Quest: The Crystalline Mean (L70) – Area: The Crystarium
  • Requires: MSQ “The Crystarium’s Resolve (L72)”.
  • 2nd Quest: Iola, Forgemaster (L70) – Area: The Crystarium
  • Requires: The Crystalline Mean (the 1st quest listed above

You can submit SIX ITEMS PER TIER PER FACET – shared between your facetmates. So try to save them up to burst through shitty tiers.

After six submissions your esteem goes up and they’re gonna ask for a new set of six items at L73, 75, and 78.

In the case of GSM 70, I’d suggest simply splitting it up between the shared classes, meaning 2/3 each for BSM, ARM.

Goldsmith L70 Levequests

I’ll put the levequest table here, but I’ll repeat it in the next segment with complete discussion (I’ll put a basic recommendation here) – since not all L70 crafters will be able to reliably make it themselves…

GSM 70 Levequests

Again, discussion for these is in the next major segment, L71.

Hopefully the Deadzone wont stress you out too much. There’s quite a few ways to push past it, but it definitely is one of the more difficult parts of leveling in a new tier, Shadowbringers to L80 is no exception.l78

Goldsmith L71 to 72

A lot goes on in this level so bear with me even if it’s a bit lengthy. A majority of your setup, ALL THE WAY UNTIL L80 GSM, happens here so it’s worth it. Most noteworthy are a stat-check or gear update and a new rotation that works very well until L80!

GSM L71 GEAR UPDATE

This gear update is similar to the L70 one. You need to get all the L70 Scrip armor, and as many accessories as you need to reach the CP requirements (370~).

Scrip Gear

This is merely a copy of the L70 gear update. If you didn’t update or incompletely updated your gear at L70, then you MUST do it now. Of course, if you have any gear that beats this – go for that instead.

Mainhand and Body are MANDATORY – the rest can be substituted for L71 crafted if you like (more notes in the next tab)

The mandatory CP values are around 370, the other stats aren’t so strict.

No Scrip for Scrip Gear?

Then simply substitute any crafted L71 gear in their place. Generally speaking not all pieces are equal – you definitely prefer scrip in some places. Some pieces have better crafted (accessories) but are largely unnecessary. Consider these only if you’re short on scrip.

TLDR: Only get and meld crafted L71 gear IF YOU HAVE NO SCRIP,
Or rather spend GIL instead of scrip.

Here’s what you should and shouldn’t consider:

GSM L71 ROTATION UPDATE: 80 DURABILITY

The L71 Mahiko San Synthesis: God’s Touch ™ – 80 Durability is a ONE BUTTON macro (so it’s thankfully short), while being ABSOLUTE TRUE 100% (baits poor procs with Tricks of the Trade) while also being BUFFLESS.

GSM L70 Levequest Discussion

Hard Mudstone Whetstone – Good ‘ol PDO leve. Great if “POOR, DESPERATE, or OVERCAPPED ON LEVES. They serve a purpose.

Stonegold Needle – Can feel expensive, but not too bad… Not like you have much of a choice. Palladium Nugget can be RNG, but overall not bad.

Hematite Earrings of Healing – Hematite price affects the value of this. If it’s within reason for you, then this becomes a “good” leve.

What to do in this tier?

Start your journey with making a pile of Stonegold Nuggets, and a few Hard Mudstone Whetstones.

For your GSM leveling journey in SHB,
your fate is entwined with the price of raw gemstones.

That being said, in this tier, at least you have options. If you’re PDO, then submit Nuggets. If you wanna maximize EXP per cost, then it’s do the single leve.  If you’re tight on levequests, do Hematite Earrings.

The Earrings triple levequest really feels good if hematite is cheap… Man, writing this and remembering the early prices for gems sucked.

Feel free to “take your time” with GSM. There are days, and certain material pricings, that really feelsbadman. Make the most out of your “extraneous EXP” with GSM. But, if gem prices are good, good!

More so than most classes, I personally felt the squeeze here when wanting “speed vs cost”.

Diaspore Choker of Fending – Essentially useless. The triple is equal to this, so why not use the triple?

Stonegold Rapier – Not bad actually. 2 Old World mats can be RNG, but these aren’t typically volatile materials. Viable!

Diaspore Bracelet of Slaying – Not bad, but the EXP over the previous tier isn’t that huge of a difference. This is simply a case of Diaspore vs Hematite price.

L73 Rotation Upgrade (40 & 80 DUR)

These rotations are TECHNICALLY optional. But they are SHORTER – saves time.  More importantly completes virtually any item 100% HQ until leveling to 80 (read notes for specifics). There’s no point to hold off upgrading rotation now… It’s also rated for higher L76 / L78 items.

If you need more CP, remember to just buy as many scrip accessories as you need, or craft as many L71 right-sides and meld as you need. It’s very easy to reach these CP values, and you can easily choose your path to obtain it.

What to do in this tier?

Make Stonegold Ingots, Whetstones and, gemstones. When you’re done, make a decision…

If Diaspore and Stonegold Ingots are well priced, then you choose this tiers leves. The single Rapier leve is legit, as well as the triple Bracelets. If you are tight on leves, then you’re probably forced to do the triple.

If the prices suck, then you can continue to do previous tier leves as the difference in EXP isn’t gamebreaking.

Manasilver Nugget – PDO Leve. Great if “POOR, DESPERATE, OR OVERCAPPED ON LEVES”. This will save your life if you’re not in a rush.

Bluespirit Rod – Not bad, but Rose Gold Nugget and Star Ruby can be a biatch. If they’re cheap, this is godly. If not, then you better pray to the gods.

Manasilver Choker – having a throwaway material like Twinthread is a huge boon for this leve.

What to do in this tier?

Craft up a pile of Manasilver Nuggets and continue the market surveillance…

While you don’t need gemstones here, we’re in a bit of a bind. Manasilver Choker is a great triple leve, but the EXP is quite low. It also suffers by having a whole completed cloth in the recipe.

Personally, I submitted both this and the single rod leve, as I had a small stockpile of old materials. But for most people, the Manasilver Choker triple will be the default choice, and while it wasn’t amazing – it didn’t feel soul crushing, either.

Of course if you’re PDO, you now have another option – Manasilver Nugget!

I have a very minor rotation update for L76 40 DUR that simply reduces it to 12 steps. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t switch, but i’ll throw it out there anyway

Triplite Ring of Aiming – Budget option, but exp seems atrocious.

Titanbronze Star Globe – Chunky EXP, but not that far ahead of the triple. I suppose this isn’t too hot. I suppose it’s in the fringe of viability.

Triplite Earrings of Casting – If Triplite is reasonable, this is great. Otherwise, wew. The viability of this is closely tied to the other single leve. So if this is viable, then you might as well do this one.

What to do in this tier?

Make your stockpile of Titanbronze Nugget. From there, pray that Triplite has a reasonable price. Then spam the Triplite Earrings of Casting triple if it is (or dare I say, even if it isn’t).

Of the previous tier leves, the Manasilver Choker is still OK, but it really pales in comparison to this tiers triple. Triplite price will really make or break your day here.

You can take the “long route” and wait for Customs, GC, or other sources of EXP. GSM felt quite miserable this time around…

Petalite Choker of Healing – A budget option if you’re short on leves. Lives or dies by the price of Petalite.

Dwarven Mythril Rapier – A more stable budget option. Not bad.

BOTH OF THE ABOVE LEVES GIVE EQUAL EXP TO THE TRIPLE.
So if you can manage it, go for the trip.

Petalite Bracelet of Fending –  If petalite is cheap, or you gather your own, this is godlike. It’s that simple.

What to do in this tier?

Start off the party with a pile of Dwarven Mythril Nugget. After that, you have some choices.

Petalite price will drive your decision here. The triple requires 2x Petalite so it really affects your choice. If it’s reasonable, go for it! Both the singles are viable, if you’re on a tighter budget.

The previous tier’s leves are still viable in the face of these new levequests, feel free if the previous tier Triplite is cheap.

Having a material price make or break your day sucks, but this was a common theme for GSM in SHB. The gems being unspoiled kinda sucked.

At 78, a new facet quest appears, and I DUMPED ALL EXP ON GSM! Good luck on your way to L80 Goldsmith – it’s close!

L80+ Goldsmith, What next?

Congratulations! Well, that’s it for the Shadowbringerstier. I have yet to decide if I will revive the end-game guides, let’s see. But for now enjoy your L80 Goldsmith and go level your other classes!!!

  1. The “L76 Rotation Update *40 DUR Only*” didn’t work out for me. It finish’s progress with quality below 20%.

The “L74 Rotation 40 DUR” works for level 1 and level 80 items.

I’ve tried Trial Synthesis with them.

  2. I have never said thanks to anyone else in my life (totals combined) as much as I have said thanks to Mahiko-san!

    Thank you Mahiko-san!

  3. You mention in the Optional Rotation level 64: 40Durability 1058difficulty that weaver has no name/brand. This is incorrect. Weaver has Name of Lightning and Brand of Lightning. It is Goldsmith (GSM) that does not have a brand/name ability and must cross class into it.

  4. I ended up leveling through leves that required Koppranickel Ingots, as suggested by the guide from 62-66. I went all the way to 70 with it. Reason being was the following:
    1. Easy rotation to acquire the mats to make with a level 70 miner
    2. Roughly 700K XP per triple turn-in
    3. Durium Ingot was roughly 500K XP per turn-in

Yes, I realize making one ingot saves more on material costs than making three of them. However, getting 700K XP per leve was worth it. I’d have more leves to use to push to 70.

One other hint for people. Don’t forget to leverage your challenge log crafts (even the melding challenge!) for some cheap, easy XP once per week. Also, do the Custom Deliveries every week. That’s a ton of XP.

  5. Suggest updating this for Mogek The Marvelous (Churning Mists) Lvl 50-60 Moogle Beast Tribe Quests and Idyllshire – Weekly Custom Deliveries Lvl 60+

  6. At level 56 you get a Collectable for Star Ruby, yields 6 scrip, and 103k xp for 2600+ quality. For just 3 raw star ruby and a basilisk whetstone (pre-HW component!) it is fairly quick to mine, dirt cheap to make, and gets you started on scrip farming. Would take around 100 to go from 56 to 60

  7. No1 seems to want to give me a courier quest i have all leve guys unlocked but i got eustace and he only offers me regualr leve quests?

    1. Courier quests aren’t marked as such. They appear as normal levequests, and they start from the HOMETOWN. You can tell it’s a courier if the little image shows the the place you’re going (In GSM’s case, “NOT ULDAH”)

  8. I think for Level 1 Courier leve are now Band Bone (Home to Local) and handfulls of Copper Rings (5) (Local to Home)

  9. The worm fang needles give 31098 exp (62196 for HQ) and the silver chokers give 30282 exp (60564) for the level 30-35 GSM leves. both are the same turn in location and both are easy mats to get a hold of. So you end up getting more exp with the needles.

  10. “GSM 10: 12x Copper Rings”

This needs to be more specific as I just crafted 12 Copper Rings rather than 12 handfuls of copper rings, which are actually needed.

    1. I’m sorry but the in-game description of “Copper Ring” versus “Copper Rings” is quite vague, no? I guess SE should change it to like copper ringlet

      1. Would be helpful to show what to grind on from 0 to15. You advised not to use levequests, but do not provide the alternative method.

        1. Hmm I guess I should edit to be more specific. Courier <-> Reverse courier leves are SUPER VALUE in this tier, but regulars are JUNK

          1. Ah ok, I have been trying to find items to grind on for 1 to 15 as I noticed that some of your guides have them and some do not. I would rather save the leves for the higher level when trying to level up crafting on multiple classes at the same time. Maybe you can add what items to grind on for 1 to 15.
