FFXIV Armorsmith Leveling Guide (Stormblood Updated!)

Stormblood Updated! “How bad can it be?” Armorer power leveling to 70 ASAP! ARM Levequest Items comparisons and value moves per tier!

Suit up for Stormblood leveling to 70!

If you’ve been here before and need quick navigation:
ARM Level: [0-15] | [15-35] | [35-50] | [50-60] | [60-64] | [64-70]

Tired of getting beat up and decided to make your own armor, huh? Let this Armorsmith Leveling Guide help you find your way! Hopefully, your journey to 70 won’t leave you with dents!

First page is very long – but you can use our quick scroll to: Basics | Leveling begins!

Before you begin…

Where is the Armorsmiths’ Guild? How to become an Armorsmith?
You can become an Armorsmith by visiting the Armorsmiths’ Guild in Limsa. If you have at least L10 in any combat class – you’re good to start hammerin’!

Ok, so we’re in the middle of updating ALL crafting guides –
We recommend the use of a few guides during your leveling process,
in varied current state of usefulness:

Armorsmith Levequests List: A table featuring all levequests for ARM 01 to 50.

Crafting General Leveling Tips: This guide was made back right after beta. It’s not updated, but it’s missing two key features: Ixal and Challenge Log. (Old but still useful)

Crafting Gear Guide: is still useful, but written a long time ago. It’s messy but contains a great table as to when you can and should update core pieces. (Old guide, kinda messy)

Armorsmith Class Quest Item Reference:

ARM 01: Bronze Ingot
ARM 05: 3x Bronze Hoplons
ARM 10: 12x Bronze Plate
ARM 15: Decorated Bronze Barbut, Bronze Buckler
ARM 20: Iron Hoplon (Materia-Enhanced)
ARM 25: (HQ) Steel Ingot
ARM 30: (HQ) Steel Chainmail
ARM 35: (HQ) Steel Frypan
ARM 40: (HQ) Mythril Cuirass
ARM 45: (All HQ) Mythril-plated Caligae, Reinforced Mythril Elmo, Mythril Sollerets
ARM 50: (HQ) Cobalt Haubergeon (Melded with: Heaven’s Eye III Materia)

Just use the above as a quick reference if completing multiple Armorsmith class quests at once. 50 to 60 is found in that segment of the guide.

How to use this guide?

Each listed tier has some self-explanatory sections such as:

  • Next class quest Item required.
  • Relevant Armorsmith levequest locations.
  • ARM Levequests items discussion (tier specific).

We will be using a few amount of ‘codes’ here to make your life easier, as long as you understand them.

  • [H] : HOMETOWN, which in ARMs case is Limsa.
  • [L] : LOCAL levemete. This changes every tier.
  • [C] : COURIER LEVE. From [H] to [L].
  • [RC] : REVERSE COURIER. From [L] to [H].
  • [R] : REPEATABLE , or a “Triple”.

Basic [H] and [L] leves are the BASELINE for value. [C] and [RC] give more than the basics, but require travel time. [R] gives the most of all, but is a massive time and material sink.

In this guide, I will try to recommend the best levequest for each type.

Ixal Beast Tribe Daily Quests: Bonus Crafting/DoH EXP !

Putting it here to remind or notify you that such a thing exists, but:

I SUGGEST USING THESE ON CRAFTERS L15+ (use on low level if forced)
Since the early levels are quite easy. (But you can unlock it asap)

Starting Quest: A Bad Bladder
NPC & Location: Scarlet at New Gridania (9, 11)
Prerequisite MSQ: Pursuit of the Past

These dailies are best used to push past “bad tiers”, or simply on your highest level non 50 crafter. I suppose you can also use them on crafting classes which are lagging behind for one reason or the other.

If you’re super fresh and have all low level crafters, and happen to unlock it early – you CAN do them now. While I don’t recommend it, I suppose it’s better than them just disappearing!

Armorsmithing 0 to 5: The beginning!

[H] 1x Bronze Skillet: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[H] 3x Bronze Ingot: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[C] 3x Bronze Plate: Recommended due to large EXP.
[RC] 1x Bronze Alembic: Recommended due to large EXP.
[L] 1x Bronze Hoplon: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[L] 1x Bronze Rivets: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS

“What is the Courier, Reverse Courier Cycle?”
A courier levequest starts from your Hometown (in ARMs case: Limsa) and ends in the local levemete (in this tiers case Red Rooster Stead). The idea is to get, complete, get, complete in a circle to maximize the EXP of your travel time.

So ARM 01 tier – it’s getting the quest from Limsa to submit 3x Bronze Plate in Red Rooster Stead, then taking the reverse courier quest from Red Rooster Stead and then submitting 1x Bronze Alembic in Limsa. This is one of the best ways to get out of the early tiers.

“How do I get to Red Rooster Stead!?”
It’s a non-aetheryte town outside Limsa. Just click on the Limsa Aetheryte, choose Tempest Gate (Lower La Noscea) then walk towards Red Rooster .

The other way to spend leves in these low tiers is to “spam the best single leve”. In this tiers case, is to buy materials from the ARM supplier and craft>submit Bronze Rivets in Limsa.

ARM is a bit special… You can begin your early levels (and subsequently the beginning of every tier) by crafting as many Bronze Ingot/Rings/Rivets and Plates as soon as they’re available to craft. Even quick synthing 20-99 of each shouldn’t be too expensive. This method is great to preserve your much needed levequests and should be taken advantage of in this early phase (for a tiny trade off in gil). In case you’ll ignore this little section, don’t worry – I’ll be sure to repeat myself in future tiers, hehe.

Like I said, you can do this much easier/lazier if you buy completed Bronze Ingots from Limsa Lower Decks (8,11).

Armorsmith 05 to 10

All levequest items below have 100% NPC Buyable Materials.

[H] 1x Bronze Barbut: Unnotable.
[H] 1x Bronze Haubergeon: Unnotable.
[C] 1x Bronze Sallet: Recommended.
[RC] 1x Bronze Chain Coif: Recommended.
[L] Bronze Scutum: Unnotable.
[L] Bronze Sollerets: Recommended.

Again, reminding you about my comment about Ingots/Rings/Rivets/Plates from previous tier.

Courier  <-> Reverse Courier cycle: Nothing noteworthy here, again, the mats are all obtainable from ARM supplier.

Or the best single: While the cost between the choices on singles is irrelevant, Bronze Sollerets win in the least hassle department.

Armorsmith 10 to 15

All levequest items below have 100% NPC Buyable Materials.

[H] 1x Iron Skillet: Unnotable
[H] 1x Bronze Plate Belt: Unnotable
[C] 1x Bronze Sabatons: Recommended.
[RC] 1x Bronze Gauntlets: Recommended.
[L] 1x Brass Alembic: Unnotable
[L] 1x Amateur’s Skillet: Recommended.

Again, reminding you about my comment about Ingots/Rings/Rivets/Plates from previous tier.

Courier  <-> Reverse Courier cycle: Nothing notable about the items here… Both of them have materials that are available from the ARM Supplier.

Or the best single: Amateur’s Skillet is the easiest to craft and least hassle amongst the bunch here. While it doesn’t really matter which single you choose here, Skillet definitely wins by a few inches.

Summary of this chunk

Courier / Reverse Courier is best in early tiers

Level 1: Bronze Plate [Limsa] / Bronze Alembic [Red Rooster Stead] Level 5: Bronze Sallet [Limsa] / Bronze Chain Coif [Red Rooster Stead] Level 10:  Bronze Sabatons [Limsa] / Bronze Gauntlets [Swiftperch]

Of course, we also can recommend the best singles:

ARM 1 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Bronze Skillet
ARM 5 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Bronze Barbut
ARM 10 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Iron Skillet

Alchemist: the beginning!

[H] 1x Leather Grimoire: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS (See notes)
[H] 3x Quicksilver: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[C] 3x Growth Formula Alpha: Recommended due to large EXP.
[RC] 1x Maple Wand: Recommended due to large EXP.
[L] 3x Animal Glue: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[L] 3x Antidote: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS

“What is the Courier, Reverse Courier Cycle?” A courier levequest starts from your Hometown (in ALCs case: Ul’dah) and ends in the local levemete (in this tiers case: Scorpion Crossing). The idea is to get, complete, get, complete in a circle to maximize the EXP of your travel time.

So ALC 01 tier – it’s getting the quest from Ul’dah to submit 3x Growth Formula Alpha in Scorpion Crossing, then taking the reverse courier quest from Scorpion Crossing and then submitting 1x Maple Wand in Ul’dah. This is by the way the fastest+least hassle way to get out of the early tiers.

The other way to spend leves in these low tiers is to “spam the best single leve”. In this tiers case, is to buy materials from the ALC supplier and craft>submit Leather Grimoires in Ul’dah. Why? Speed… If you prefer any of the triple crafts (Quicksilver, Animal Glue, Antidote), for more manual crafting EXP, choose any – they’re all quite similar.

You can of course just randomly grind to level up a bit, too.

“How do I get to Scorpion Crossing!?” It’s a non-aetheryte town located right out of Ul’dah. From Ul’dah aetheryte, go towards the Gate of Sultana and exit to Western Thanalan.

Alchemist 05 to 10

All levequest items below have 100% NPC Buyable Materials.

[H] 3x Eye Drops: Unnotable.
[H] 3x Distilled Water: Recommended, easiest to craft and cheapest.
[C] 1x Whispering Maple Wand: Recommended due to large EXP.
[RC] 1x Maple Picatrix: Recommended due to large EXP.
[L] 3x Beeswax: Unnotable.
[L] 3x Rubber: Unnotable.

Like in any 5 tier, there’s only 2 choices:

The Courier  <-> Reverse Courier cycle: Maple Picatrix isn’t a huge problem (materials from ALC guild vendor), but it does require 2 synthesis (Ink). Whispering Maple Wand, while seemingly a hassle – you can buy the basic Maple Wand and Growth Formula alpha if you don’t wanna make those (from Gridania and Ul’dah Merchant Strip, respectively).  A tiny hassle, but the EXP rewards are huge.

Or the best single: Cheapest and easiest to HQ is Distilled Water. I mean seriously, the mats are so cheap they may as well give it for free.

Alchemist 10 to 15

All levequest items below have 100% NPC Buyable Materials.

[H] 3x Ether: Unnotable
[H] 1x Budding Maple Wand: Avoid
[C] 1x Ash Picatrix: Recommended due to large EXP.
[RC] 1x Roof Tile: Recommended due to large EXP.
[L] 3x Growth Formula Beta: Unnotable
[L] 3x Potion: Recommended.

Like in any 10 tier, there’s only 2 chocies:

The Courier  <-> Reverse Courier cycle: The materials for the Ash Picatrix and Roof Tile are all buyable from the ALC supplier. Picatrix is just a tiny hassle due to crafting the ink. Otherwise, good ‘ol C-RC leves.

Or the best single: Avoid the wand is the only fast rule I have for you here. The others are all similarly chumpy, but if I were to recommend one – Potion. Yep, basic as bones potion. You can buy ready-made Distilled Water from Merchant Strip. Or you can quicksynth ‘em.

Summary of this chunk

Courier / Reverse Courier is best in the early tiers:

Level 1:  Growth Formula Alpha / Maple Wand [Scorpion Crossing] Level 5: Whispering Maple Wand / Maple Picatrix [Scorpion Crossing] Level 10:  Ash Picatrix / 3x Roof Tile [Horizon]

Of course, we also can recommend the best singles:

ALC 1 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Leather Grimoire
ALC 5 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Distilled Water
ALC 10 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Potion

Levequest Items Discussion?

Every tier has 3 kinds of Leves:

  • [1]Single Submit Leves: Levemete & submission are just a short walk from each other.
  • [C]ourier Leves: Levemete is from the [H]ometown, to be submitted to the [L]ocal Levemete.
  • [R]epeatable Leves.

Notes: [1]Single and [3]Repeatable Leves (1 each) are from the [H]ometown, and [L]ocal levemete. [C]ourier leves will always give the Highest EXP per craft, but require alot of time, and travel costs. [3]epeatable leves will always give the Highest EXP per Leve. If you value your leves alot or don’t have many left, these are good. But, they are thrice as expensive. We will recommend the best [1] and [3] levequest(s) for every tier. Note that this depends on server prices and might not apply to you (Unlikely). We will comment on every tiers [C] levequest but will likely never recommend it. Use [C] levequests at your own discretion! Also, a Precursor item means it requires a fully crafted item AS A MATERIAL.

We DO NOT advise using “REGULAR” leves for these low levels. If you really feel like using these leves for these tiers:

How to use this guide!?

Each listed tier has some self-explanatory sections such as:

  • Next class quest Item required.

  • WVR Levequests items discussion (tier specific).

We will be using a few amount of ‘codes’ here to make your life easier, as long as you understand them.

  • [H] : HOMETOWN, which in WVR’s case is Ul’dah.

Weaver 0 to 5: the Beginnings!

[H] 1x Hempen Underpants: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[C] 1x Hempen Undershirt: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[RC] 1x Hempen Coif: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[L] 1x Hempen Halfgloves: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS
[L] 1x Hempen Cowl: NPC BUYABLE MATERIALS

**If you choose to, you can buy COMPLETED cloth and yarn from other vendors. It greatly speeds up the process, but you get a little less EXP.

“What is the Courier, Reverse Courier Cycle?” A courier levequest starts from your Hometown (In WVRs case Ul’dah) and ends in the local levemete (In this tiers case Scorpions Crossing). The idea is to get, complete, get, complete in a circle to maximize the EXP of your travel time.

So WVR 01 tier – it’s getting the quest from Ul’dah to submit 1x Hempen Undershirt in Red Rooster Stead, then taking the reverse courier quest from Red Rooster Stead and then submitting 1x Hempen Coif in Ul’dah. This is by the way the fastest+least hassle way to get out of the early tiers.

“How do I get to Scorpion Crossing!?” It’s a non-aetheryte town outside U’dah. Just take the Aethernet to XXX gate and walk a bit outwards.

The other way to spend leves in these low tiers is to “spam the best single leve”. In this tiers case, is to buy materials from the WVR supplier and craft>submit Hempen Halfgloves in Ul’dah.

Weaver Level 05 to 10

All levequest items below have 100% NPC Buyable Materials.

[H] 1x Hempen Tabard: Unnotable.
[H] 1x Amateur’s Dalmatica: Unnotable
[C] 1x Hempen Kecks: Recommended due to high EXP.
[RC] 1x Hempen Acton: Recommended due to high EXP.
[L] 1x Hempen Shepherd’s Tunic: Best single.
[L] 1x Amateur’s Breeches: Unnotable

**Like I mentioned before, you can buy completed cloths and yarns at the expense of EXP. You can even quick synth ‘em.

Courier  <-> Reverse Courier cycle: Nothing much to say here. Materials buyable from WVR supplier (or completed yarns/cloths from other merchants). Doing this cycle yields the chunkiest EXP with the only downside of a little travel time.

Or the best single: While all the items are relatively easy to make and cheap, Hempen Sheperds Tunic might be the ‘easiest’ to make at this point. But don’t sweat the choice between singles in this tier.

Weaver Level 10 to 15

All levequest items below have 100% NPC Buyable Materials.

[H] 1x Cotton Scarf: Unnotable.
[H] 1x Straw Hat: Brainlessly cheap, easy and hassle-free!
[C] 1x Cotton Turban: Recommended due to high EXP.
[RC] 1x Stablehand’s Hat: Recommended due to high EXP.
[L] 1x Hempen Bracers: Unnotable.
[L] 1x Cotton Halfgloves: Unnotable.

Cotton Yarn & Cloth can be bought in: Housing Vendors, Sylph Vendor mainly. (Other vendors sell one or the other only)

Courier  <-> Reverse Courier cycle: With a total cost of 4 Undyed Cotton Cloth and 3 Straw for each cycle, this is dirt cheap. Suck up the travel time and do it.

Or the best single: Damn, Straw Hat needs 3 pieces of straw and a shard. Cheap, easy recipe level, no hassles… this is the go-to single this tier.

Summary of this chunk

Courier / Reverse Courier is best in early tiers

L1: Hempen Undershirt [Ul’dah] / Hempen Coif [Scorpions Crossing] L5: Hempen Kecks [Ul’dah] / Hempen Acton [Scorpions Crossing] L10:  Cotton Turban [Ul’dah] / Stablehand’s Hat [Horizon]

Of course, we also can recommend the best singles:

[3]Repeatable leves will always give the Highest EXP per Leve. If you value your leves alot or don’t have many left, these are good. But, they are thrice as expensive. We will recommend the best [1] and [3] levequest(s) for every tier. Note that this depends on server prices and might not apply to you. We will comment on every tiers [C] levequest but will likely never recommend it. Use [C] levequests at your own discretion! Also, a Precursor item means it requires a fully crafted item AS A MATERIAL, which is bad.

Blacksmith Level 1-15: The early levels

These levels are EASY since all materials you need can be bought from the guild NPC. There’s no excuse not to craft ’em!

BSM Early Levequests

We DO NOT advise using “non-courier” Leves for these low levels. Below you will find a list of items for courier leves, which originate from Limsa Upper Decks.

Doing the Courier / Reverse Courier route is the way:

Level 1:  Bronze Rivets x5 / Bronze Dagger [ Red Rooster Stead ] Level 5: Bronze Head Knife / Bronze Pickaxe [ Red Rooster Stead ] Level 10:  Bronze Knuckles / Spiked Bronze Labrys [ Swiftperch ]

All of the above courier levequests start at Limsa Lominsa!

If you do end up doing non-courier:

BSM 1 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Bronze Saw [ Red Rooster Sea ] BSM 5 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Bronze Bastard Sword [ Limsa ] BSM 10 Leve Recommendation: [H][1] – Bronze Spatha [ Limsa ]

Grand Company Submissions:

Pressing CTRL+U and clicking on “Next Mission Allowance” shows you a list of items your grand company requires. Submitting them in your GC’s homebase will yield roughly 1 levequests worth of EXP. This is great as it doesn’t eat up your levequest allowances.

A “star” on an item means they need it really badly! Meaning you get DOUBLE the EXP rewards. Generally speaking GC submissions should be done as long as you have materials for it.

You don’t need to craft the items yourself – you can simply submit items you buy from the Marketboard or obtain by any other means.

FFXIV 3.3 Crafting (DoH) BiS and Materia Melding

3.3 UPDATED! Find out crafting best in slot, Melding caps for BiS Ironworks Crafting set and info on Augmented Keep set.

Welcome to our Crafting (DoH) BiS and Melding guide! It’s updated for 3.3 which means it has information on Ironworks Crafting Set and Augmented Keep Set. So, let’s see what’s going on with these…

  • Which set is ‘BiS’ for 3.3?
  • How does the Augmented Keep set line up?
  • Suggested melds for “ANY” and “FREE”
  • Core crafting reminders for 3.3

3.3 DoH BiS (“Practical BiS”)

We’ve come to a point that we don’t need a fully melded ‘BiS’ to do endgame crafting. But EXTRA STATS always help, right? So the properties of this list are as follows:

Thankfully BiS this tier is the universally usable Ironworks Set.

  • What can be “practically” capped is shown above
  • ANY and FREE represent melds that you can or should save in case any thresholds appear in the next tier. They are likely irrelevant in 3.3.
  • If any stat “tresholds” appear for rotations, this will be updated.

Craftin BiS Notes

***Stat summary is WITHOUT the ANY or FREE melds, and as you can see is more than enough stats for a baseline set in preparation for the next tier, with enough open melds to be able to compensate for any tresholds that may come.

Weapon? GET EITHER ONE, seriously. Both are a significant upgrade to the previous tiers weapon. Of course, they still aren’t equal.

FRESH OFF THE BAT: Augmented Keep is slightly better.
WITH MELDS: Crafted of course, comes out ahead.

So this all depends on your budget and red scrip amount. Personally? I’ll pick up crafted.

Earring? Bracer? Necklace? If you have a GODLIKE ASTRAL BIRCH ACCESSORY – use it. Otherwise, “not so tryhard” melding these is okay if you’re coming in with anything lower.

They aren’t “practical to cap” I listed that as ANY / FREE above. But they are cappable as of now using the below meld:

Capping Earring Bracer:
CON V – CRA V – CP IV – CP IV – CON II

Augmented Keep set? Worth it?

While an upgrade is an upgrade, I highly advise AGAINST getting any of these unless you are absolutely swimming with red scrip. EVEN THEN I WOULD ONLY CONSIDER THE CHEST PIECE.

The non-universal nature of this set is really a pain in the butt.

The Ironworks Crafting chest requires a bit of an investment for it to beat the Augmented Keep chest, but the pros heavily outweigh the cons. You can buy some chests for the core classes while gearing up, but don’t invest into any other piece.

Suggested melds for “ANY V” and “FREE”?

Again these are HIGHLY dependent on stat tresholds and budget. But at the very least SUREMELDS should be considered.

  • Control? Every bit of CON helps.
  • CP? Again, every bit helps.
  • Craftmanship? This purely depends on tresholds, and

So you can’t be sad if you stick CON V and CAP CP on each piece you can. And just try to cram in Craftmanship later on if you need it.

Again, it’s impossible to recommend a general scenario for everyone.

Core crafting reminders for 3.3

The MOOGLE BEAST TRIBE QUEST LINE Rewards DoH Materia! This starts out in Churning Mists:

Tricks and Stones Disciple of the Hand level 50
The Churning Mists (X:27.2 Y:34.5)
NPC: Seething Stonemason
Players must first complete the main scenario quest “Into the Aery” and the quest “Laying the First Brick.”

Unless I’m mistaken, there seems to be a chunky amount of pre-requisite sidequests so good luck with that sir.  I don’t know if the high level dailies give V’s, but the latter Rank Up quests do, so that’s worth it in any case.

Well that’s about it for Crafting BiS changes in this patch. Thank the heavens that they gave us a solid universal set!!!

FFXIV Four Star (4*) Master Crafting Rotations (& More)

UPDATED! Master Crafting Rotations! How to make HQ token items (Intricate Silver Brocade, Calibrated Rose Gold Cog etc..) and 4* Equipment!

All you need to know about crafting rotations relevant to the FFXIV crafting current end-game (Three Star / Master), and a step behind (Two Star)! If you’re wondering how to gear up to reach this point, check out our Crafting End-game Gear & Materia. Let me preface this little guide with one thing: Everyone might be at different gear points and you can “upgrade” or “downgrade” these rotations to your liking. Please use http://www.ffxivcrafter.com/ to see if it’s up to scratch. That site is great for testing out these crafting rotations! As you get better gear, you can “upgrade” these rotations to increase your chances.

Four star Master crafting Rotation (Equipment)

This is for the 4* equipment such as Arachne Bolero, Wootz Sallet, etc… Again, there are a chunkton of rotations possible, the below outlines is a rather generic rotation with the following upsides:

  • All crafters can easily fit the crossclass required INCLUDING the Rumination + Reclaim escape pod.
  • Easily Reclaimable after all touches and Great Strides
  • REQUIRES only 1 ToT, or sacrificing one touch for Comfort Zone in the middle phase.

You need the following NINE crossclass skills:
Comfort Zone, Tricks of the Trade, Byregot’s Blessing, Hasty Touch, Steady Hand II, Piece by Piece, Rapid Synthesis, Ingenuity II and Waste Not II
This means ALL CRAFTERS can use this rotation. Your tenth skill SHOULD be reclaim. Eleventh should be Rumination (all classes should be able to support this)

Stats: 479 MINIMUM CRAFTSMANSHIP, any control above minimum, 395 CP+ToT.

/ac “Master’s Mend” <wait.3> (Changing to Manipulation is OKAY to save CP)
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
/ac “Steady Hand II” <wait.2>
– The above fits into one macro: If you fail any Rapid Synthesis, reclaim at this point

/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
– The above fits into one macro: You NEED to have hit one ToT at this point. Check if you have 71CP at least

Manual Crafting Begins

Great Strides (SH~4)
Bait 1? (SH~3) (39 CP needed to complete) (Bait with Observe if CP>=50)(Innov if CP>=57)
Byregot’s Blessing (SH~2) (Last chance to Rumination/+Reclaim)
Standard Synthesis (SH~1)

For now, this is a good “general” rotation to follow. But, as always, core knowledge of crafting will always beat rotations in crafts as difficult as these (and much worse, the token items). Again, it all depends on melds… preference of safety versus risk…

“Four star token” HQ Rotation

Some feedback on this rotation says it’s too complex – will “fix” somehow.
It also works with all crafters, but not “rumination+reclaim” safe.
Will be redesigning this to find a middle ground.

OKAY, before anything else – there are MANY MANY MANY rotations and MANY variants, with many possible outcomes. ONE THING FOR SURE is that there is NO WAY to 100% HQ these 100% of the time. There is no BEST rotation, only rotations that are better at one thing or another (Maximum security, maximum chances (but high risk) etc etc).

TO PREVENT CONFUSION, these are the items in question:
Intricate Silver Brocade (WVR), Rich Tomato Relish (CUL), Concentrated Spirits of Salt (ALC), Water-Hardened Hippogryph Strap (LTW), Balanced Darksteel Hook (ARM), Reinforced Darksteel Wire (BSM), Calibrated Rose Gold Cog (GSM), Reinforced Sprice Plywood (CRP). We also assume you bothered with HQ base materials for 1494 starting quality. First, a gear check:

If you’re at this point, you probably have stats similar to one of these sets:
“Didn’t bother with some of the new stuff” “But I have to pick up the offhand” (link)
437 Craftsmanship 393 Control, 388 CP with food.

389 CP is actually useful: more on this later. Actually, I recommend it. If you’re looking for a right-side upgrade, I suggest the Mosshorn Earrings (replacing old-timers Red Coral Earring)

Anything lower than this is SUICIDE. These crafts are not for the feint of heart.

Mahiko “Semi-YOLO” Rotation

PHASE 1 (30%~ success rate)
/ac “Comfort Zone” <wait.2>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
/ac “Inner Quiet” <wait.2>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
/ac “Piece by Piece” <wait.3>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
/ac “Ingenuity” <wait.2>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
/ac “Steady Hand II” <wait.2>
/ac “Rapid Synthesis” <wait.3>
/ac “Rapid Synthesis” <wait.3>
/ac “Rapid Synthesis” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>

Looks shitty? Yeahp, I won’t even lie. If ANY RAPID SYNTH fails, you must reclaim. I start all of my synths in this tier with this macro. Watch it carefully. YOU NEED AT LEAST 1 ToT to be “safe”. So what you’re looking for here is 684+ Progress, and 340 CP. Progress failure is a MUST RECLAIM, Failure to ToT (5 chances!) is okay, but preferable.

Phase 2 A
/ac “Comfort Zone” <wait.2>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
/ac “Master’s Mend II” <wait.3>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>
/ac “Steady Hand II” <wait.2>
/ac “Waste Not II” <wait.2>

Phase 3 (MANUAL CRAFTING COMMENCES)
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Steady Hand II” <wait.2>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Hasty Touch” <wait.3>
/ac “Tricks of the Trade” <wait.2>

Yeahp, that’s 9 Hasty touches. The tricks on the end is “free” NOTE THAT the rotation is designed to REPLACE ONE OF THE HASTYS WITH ToT (or more specifically, gain a ToT by the end) If it happens on the end, nice. In the middle – nice. In the middle and end? NICE.

Phase 4 (Dont have 66CP? Reclaim, scrub)

Let’s take this step by step. If i haven’t mentioned already – LESS THAN 66 CP IS A RECLAIM. If you have 389 base CP you have the luxury of ensuring ONE OBSERVE during the BB Baiting phase.

(88 CP? Steady Hand is a filler option, or do it now)(ToT if its up after)
Great Strides (Baiting begins)
Not a good? Careful Synthesis II or ToT. (SH if you haven’t prior) (Observe if >=34 CP) (Innov if 46 >= CP)
Not a good? ToT or (CSII if you haven’t prior). (SH if you haven’t prior) (Observe if >=34 CP)  (Innov if 46 >= CP)
Last chance for Byregots Blessing. Make your decision now. RUMINATION+RECLAIM if you chicken out.
Careful Synthesis II x 2 (If you didn’t use it to bait earilier)

There are times you wont have 88CP for the Steady Hand -> that’s fine. It’s about half as risky as a reclaim at that point. Now, seriously, theres a million deviations to this rotation and a million variables to work to and against your favor. You need to make some decisions for yourself for MAXIMUM VALUE – but there’s always a trade off. These crafts are not for the faint of heart.

“Four star token” NQ Rotation

This rotation is a basic MINIMUM STAT required method to NO QUALITY a “Four star” or “Tier 2” token.

TO PREVENT CONFUSION, these are the items in question:
Intricate Silver Brocade (WVR), Rich Tomato Relish (CUL), Concentrated Spirits of Salt (ALC), Water-Hardened Hippogryph Strap (LTW), Balanced Darksteel Hook (ARM), Reinforced Darksteel Wire (BSM), Calibrated Rose Gold Cog (GSM), Reinforced Sprice Plywood (CRP).

(also a macro)
/ac “Steady Hand” <wait.2>
/ac “Piece by Piece” <wait.3>
/ac “Piece by Piece” <wait.3>
/ac “Piece by Piece” <wait.3>
/ac “Piece by Piece” <wait.3>
/ac “Ingenuity II” <wait.2>
/ac “Careful Synthesis II” <wait.3>
/ac “Careful Synthesis II” <wait.3>
/ac “Careful Synthesis II” <wait.3>

There are of course many ways to do this. This rotation is only used to get NQ Tier 2 tokens for SUPRA WEAPON UPGRADE. It has pretty much zero use aside from this.

Three Star Master Crafting Rotation

Required Stats:
396 Craftsmanship
374 Control (minimum)
380 CP (345 + HQ Bouillabaisse)
or meld +1 CP on off-hand for NQ.

  • 1) Comfort Zone (Tricks?)

  • 14) Hasty Touch
  • 15) Manipulation (Tricks?)
  • 16) Steady Hand (Tricks?)***
  • 17) Piece by Piece
  • 18) Great Strides
  • 19) Piece by Piece**
  • 20) Ingenuity II
  • 21) Byregot’s Blessing
  • 22) Careful Synthesis II
  • 23) Careful Synthesis II
  • 24) Careful Synthesis II

*** This is what I call the “Byregot’s Killzone“. After pressing Steady Hand, if ever you get a Excellent just jam Byregot’s in. Failing this, after Great Strides, Ignore Innovation or Ingenuity if you land on a Good. Of course, make sure to do Ingenuity 2 before Careful Synths.

** Piece by Piece is a “filler” to try and get a better than normal condition after great strides. Ingenuity II acts the same way. Again, keep in mind the “Byregot’s Killzone”.

Hasty Touch Failures? Out of nine Hasty Touches, I would say the very least I would gamble with is 6 successes. You can consider reclaiming if 3 fail. If 4 fail, you’re gonna need some luck.

1 Tricks of the Trade? Replace step 20 with Innovation.
2 Tricks of the Trade? Replace step 14 with Basic Touch.
3 Tricks of the Trade? Replace step 13 with Basic Touch

Token Item Rotation (Silver Brocade, Gryphonskin Strap etc)

THIS ROTATION DOES NOT WORK FOR TIER 2 (Intricate Silver Brocade, Water Hardened Gryphonskin Strap) For that, please refer to the above (Tier 2 tokens)

Required Stats:
357 craftsmanship
371 CP (345+HQ Pea Soup)
318 Minimum Control (you’ll want more, though)

Note on these stats: For Craftsmanship you need 105 progress on Careful Synth 2, under Ingenuity 2. I get 106 with 357, so it might be lower like 353…) How do you reach 371 CP? I designed this rotation to fit around the popular base CP of 345. as I wrote above, just eat the Pea Soup.

This Rotation is used to craft the following:

  • Spirits of Salt (ALC)
  • Darksteel Wire (ARM)
  • Darksteel Hook (BSM)
  • Spruce Plywood (CRP)
  • Spicy Tomato Relish (CUL)
  • Rose Gold Gear (GSM)
  • Gryphonskin Strap (LTW)
  • Silver Brocade (WVR)

Token Item “Mahiko Token” Rotation:

  • 1) Comfort Zone (Tricks?)
  • 2) Inner Quiet (Tricks?)
  • 3) Steady Hand II
  • 4) Waste Not II
  • 5) Hasty Touch
  • 6) Hasty Touch
  • 7) Hasty Touch
  • 8) Hasty Touch
  • 9) Steady Hand II
  • 10) Hasty Touch
  • 11) Hasty Touch
  • 12) Hasty Touch
  • 13) Hasty Touch
  • 14) Hasty Touch
  • 15) Manipulation (Tricks?)
  • 16) Steady Hand (Tricks?)
  • 17) Hasty Touch***
  • 18) Great Strides
  • 19) Innovation
  • 20) Ingenuity II
  • 21) Byregot’s Blessing
  • 22) Careful Synthesis II
  • 23) Careful Synthesis II
  • 24) Careful Synthesis II
  • 25) Careful Synthesis II

***Byregot’s Killzone. If Excellent, use it. After Great Strides, if material condition good, use it.

Hasty Touch Failures? Out of eleven Hasty Touches, succeeding only 8 times is still okay. Most of the time you’re going to want to use HQ base materials, anyway.

1 Tricks of the Trade? Replace step 17 with Basic Touch
2 Tricks of the Trade? Replace step 14 with Basic Touch.
3 Tricks of the Trade? Replace step 13 with Basic Touch

2 Star 40 Durability Crafting Rotation

This is only relevant in end-game due to the items you need to submit for the Master Recipe Books.

***Byregot’s Killzone. If Excellent, use it. After Great Strides, if material condition good, use it.

With your Master Weapon, this needs only one Careful Synth II to fill under Ingenuity II (Exact craftsmanship threshold unknown)

2 Star 80 Durability Crafting Rotation

Required Stats:
Craftsmanship: 347
Control: 318 minimum
CP: 345

  • Comfort Zone
  • Inner Quiet
  • Waste Not I
  • Steady Hand II

***Byregot’s Killzone. If Excellent, use it. After Great Strides, if material condition good, use it.

While there are opportunities for Tricks of the Trade, and subsequent modifications, it’s not really needed. This rotation nails it 100% of the time NQ to HQ.

FFXIV Crafting (DoH) Gear Guide

Crafting gear: When to upgrade!? My inventory is ful!? Relax… find out best DoH gear on your road(s) to 50.

Hey guys! Here we will be discussing about DoH gear, why you should update your gear every so often, and when you should do it!

Why upgrade your crafting gear?

There are many many ways to level a crafting class…

  • Crafting your own levequest items.
  • Casually crafting your way to 50, completing logs etc…
  • Grinding (not so ideal, hehe).
  • Buying levequest items from the marketboard for you to submit.
  • Having someone else craft leve items for you to submit.

If you’re part of the “buying items” or “having someone else craft” group, this guide is largely useless to you. You guys should proceed to the Crafting End-Game Gear (+Max Melds) Guide.

Crafting your own levequest items is the most cost efficient method in leveling a Disciple of Hand class. But for that you’re going to need two things. A good sense of crafting technique, and some decent crafting gear. Of course, we will be discusing the latter here.

Getting better gear means being able to:

  • Prevent failure when crafting.
  • Obtain HQ items more reliably
  • (and in the best scenario) Obtain HQ items from No-Quality materials.

All of the above reasons, and more, make it ideal to get decent crafting gear. Your return on investment will be massive!

Should I buy every crafting gear upgrade I can find!?

Well, not really. If you have the money for it, or can craft it yourself – why not. But not all upgrades are as equal! Some pieces of gear are more important than others. The three key pieces you NEED to update are: Main Hand, Off-hand and Chest.

Following that are the CP granting accessory slots: Neck, Wrist, Rings, Ear. These are pretty important, but not as critical.

Then least important are the control only slots (Non-chest body pieces): Head, Hands, Waist, Legs, Boots.

I’m confused! There’s so much DoH gear! When do I upgrade?

We made tables of that. The first one represents all pieces worn on the body. Left is most important (chest). Followed by accessories, then non-chest body pieces. (Click the class to sort by it or enter your level in the search box!)

Cost efficient Disciple of Hand Gearing strategy

Of course, if you can afford all pieces and you’re planning to get all crafting classes to 50, investing in good gear for every tier is going to pay off MASSIVELY. Do you NEED them? No, not really. So here we discuss how and when you should buy gear…

Main Hand, Off-Hand and Chest should be upgraded as often as you can. (As a very general rule, check every 4 levels. Look at the table above to be more specific). You can ditch the level 47 ones since you’re nearing 50 anyway.

Accessories are also very important. They aren’t that expensive, and CP really does alot for you. You can skip the copper tier, and begin your investment in brass (Level 15~19). You can live to 50 with this, but I prefer upgrading this all the time. Electrum Choker(49) and Red Coral Earrings(45) should be picked up ASAP since they are best in slot.

Non-chest body pieces are the least priority. You should get a complete HQ low-level set (15~) at least, as they’re inexpensive. You can comfortably get to 50 with this. If you want to upgrade, I would suggest skipping the Velveteen tier (expensive). Upgrading to the Linen tier (Level 32-38 for a complete set), since it’s much cheaper than Velveteen and Felt. And live with that until you’re 50. I wouldn’t really invest in Felt because you’ll be 50 soon after. Raptorskin Merchant Pouch (48) is an exception. It’s the best possible waist slot right now, and you might as well pick up an HQ as soon as you can.

Investing in gear getting to 50 is worth it, and becomes more so when you plan to get more than one class to 50. Using the guidelines above, and tables, you don’t need to be confused and check the MB every time you level up. Hopefully this helps you out!

So you got to 50, ey? Then it’s time to gear up. Check this out: Crafting End-Game Gear (+Max Melds) Guide.
