FFXIV Machinist (MCH) Guide & FAQ

All you need to know about the Machinist job in FFXIV! How to unlock MCH, what skills, stats, and other supporting info. Also links to advanced guides!

“These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” – Mahiko ‘-bi Wan’ San.

Hello! Welcome to our FFXIV Machinist guide. Here, we discuss all basic Machinist information, and post links to find more advanced Machinist resources. The Machinist is a ranged physical DPS class which was introduced in Heavensward 3.0, and have a special requirements (Like Astrologian and Dark Knight) compared to the original jobs. If you’re a newer MCH, the Machinist leveling guide may be useful.

How do I become a Machinist in FFXIV? What are the MCH Requirements?

1) You must have an existing Level 50 combat class (DoW or DoM).
2) You must have completed “Before the Dawn” (all story quests prior to 3.0).
3) Only then will the Machinist unlock quest open up –

Where do I unlock Machinist?
The quest name is “Savior of Skysteel”, which is found in Foundation (8,10). The questgiver is an NPC named ‘Stephanivien’.

Help! I’m a new player rushing to Machinist! Your best bet’s starting the game as Archer and hitting the requirements as a Bard. Switch to MCH once you’re good to go!

Machinist stats: What stats to allocate and gear up for?

The most important stat for MCH is undoubtedly DEX. DEX improves ranged physical damage, and of course facilitates your main objective of DEALING DAMAGE. All characters will want some extra VIT (usually by materia, and stat points) when tackling extremely difficult content. Note that excessive VIT is a huge minus to efficiency.

As for secondary stats, we can’t really say yet. MCH may have favorable secondary stats that synergize with their skillset, but we can only guess at this point. Determination is the ‘go-to’ stat for any DPS, and Machinists are no different.

(More info: MCH Stats & Materia)

What are the Machinist Skills & Traits?
MCH being their ‘lifespan’ at level 30. So you may get shocked at the amount of new skills you have. The skills and traits are listed near the bottom of the post.

What classes are Machinist Cross-class skills from?
Archer and Lancer. (More info: MCH Cross-class skills)

Crafting & Gathering classes suitable for Machinist?
Going by trends we can assume…
MCH Armor: Leatherworker (mainly)
MCH Gun: ??? (I assume metal-based crafters)
MCH Accessories: Goldsmith (mainly)

It’s hard to say clearly which gathering class is best. But I’m willing to bet guns need metal too, so I’ll go with primarily Miner. We all know how leatherworker rolls though…

FFXIV Astrologian (AST) Guide & FAQ

All you need to know about the Astrologian job in FFXIV! How to unlock AST, what skills, stats, and other supporting info. Also links to advanced guides!

“You must believe in the heart of the cards.” – Mahiko ‘Yugi’ San.

Hi! Thanks for coming to our FFXIV Astrologian guide. Here, we discuss all basic Astrologian information, and post links to find more advanced Astrologian resources. The Astrologian is a Healing class which was introduced in Heavensward 3.0, and have a special requirements (Like Dark Knight and Machinist) compared  to the original jobs. New AST? The Astrologian leveling guide might be helpful.

How do I become a Astrologian in FFXIV? What are the AST Requirements?

1) You must have an existing Level 50 combat class (DoW or DoM).
2) You must have completed “Before the Dawn” (all story quests prior to 3.0).
3) Only then will the Astrologian unlock quest open up –

Where do I unlock Astrologian?
The quest name is “Stairway to the Heavens”, which is found in The Pillars (15,10). The questgiver is an NPC named ‘Jannequinard’.

Help! I’m a new player rushing to Astrologian! Then you’re best off starting the game as Conjurer and hitting the requirements as a White Mage. Then switch to AST once you’re good to go.

Astrologian stats: What stats to allocate and gear up for?

Being a healing class, AST’s will benefit most from MND. Any increase to healing output is welcome, obviously. PIE is the supporting stat for all MP based healers so it’s worth considering as well. VIT is useful for any person who wants to have increased survivability. Please note than over-stacking on VIT (Materia and Statpoints) is a huge minus to efficiency.

As for secondary stats, Piety is extremely important for AST since their secondary MP regen tool is random. Aside from that, literally every stat can benefit Astrologians in some way. This all depends on the stance you main, though.
(More info: AST Stats & Materia)

What are the Astrologian Skills & Traits?
The main difference with AST is you ‘start’ at level 30. So you might get a bit confused. The skills and traits are listed near the bottom of the post. But I’m sure what you’re curious about is: THE CARDS!

Card NameCard EffectRoyal Road"Family"Comments

More advanced uses of these cards can be seen in the: Astrologian Healing Guide (End-game).

Astrologian Stances: Nocturnal Sect & Diurnal Sect effects?

Here is a chart showing what each stance has to offer.

SkillNocturnal SectDiurnal Sect
Stance Bonus+5% Potency to healing+5% casting speed
Aspected BeneficHigher potency, 130% of healing is converted to shield.Weaker potency, leaves an 18s Regen effect.
Aspected HeliosLeaves a shield equal to 100% of the amount healed.Leaves a Regen effect on all affected members.
Celestial OppositionCannot be used while stanceless.Cannot be used while stanceless.

While the above table is a quick list, more in-depth knowledge can be gained from the Astrologian Healin guide.

What classes are Astrologian Cross-class skills from?
Thaumaturge and Conjurer. The most viable 5 to pick are:

  1. Cleric Stance
  2. Protect
  3. Aero I
  4. Swiftcast
  5. (free slot)

Crafting & Gathering classes suitable for Astrologian?
AST Armor: Weaver > Leatherworker
AST Star Globe (Weapon) & AST Accessories: Goldsmith

Like all casters, there is no way to get everything with one class. Mining is slightly more important than Botany for Astrologians. But as any end-game crafter knows, getting 60 in all DoH is the plan.

FFXIV Dark Knight (DRK) Guide & FAQ

All you need to know about the Dark Knight job in FFXIV! How to unlock DRK, what skills, stats, and other supporting info. Also links to advanced guides!

“Ah, you think darkness your ally. You merely adopted it… I… uh… I’m a Zombie” – Mahiko ‘Bane’ San.

Hey guys! Welcome to our FFXIV Dark Knight guide. Here, we discuss all basic Dark Knight information, and post links to find more advanced Dark Knight resources. The Dark Knight is a tank class which was introduced in Heavensward 3.0, and have a special requirements (Like Astrologian and Machinist) compared to the original jobs. If you’re a newer DRK, the Dark Knight leveling guide may be useful.

How do I become a Dark Knight in FFXIV? What are the DRK Requirements?

1) You must have an existing Level 50 combat class (DoW or DoM).
2) You must have completed “Before the Dawn” (all story quests prior to 3.0).
3) Only then will the Dark Knight unlock quest open up –

Where do I unlock Dark Knight?
The quest name is “Our End”, which is found in The Pillars (13,8). The questgiver is an NPC names ‘Ishgardian Citizen’.

Help! I’m a new player rushing to Dark Knight! Then you’re best off starting the game as Gladiator and hitting the requirements as a Paladin. Then switch to DRK once you’re good to go.

Dark Knight stats: What stats to allocate and gear up for?

DRK’s, being a tank class, have only two stats to choose from. VIT will be the go-to choice for 80% of Dark Knights, and would be correct most of the time. Many tank players like to allocate STR to increase their DPS. This may not be the optimal choice depending on your level of play, and your static group. But either way VIT, STR or a mix of both would be the way to go.

THERE MAY BE A PIETY ‘CAP’ LIKE BLACK MAGES – WE WILL SEE.

As for secondary stats, we don’t quite know yet. But if we boil it down to the basics (ignoring DRK specifics), you can have a read on: Parry vs DPS stats as tanks.
(More info: DRK Stats & Materia)

What are the Dark Knight Skills & Traits?
Unlike other jobs, you jump straight into DRK at level 30. So you might get a bit overwhelmed. The skills and traits are listed near the bottom of the post.

What classes are Dark Knight Cross-class skills from?
Gladiator and Marauder. (More info: DRK Cross-class skills)

Crafting & Gathering classes suitable for Dark Knight?
Going by trends we can assume…
DRK Armor: Armorsmith
DRK Greatsword: Blacksmith
DRK Accessories: Goldsmith

For gathering, Mining supports all the above crafters quite well, which is quite fortunate for DRK and other heavy armor users.

FFXIV Rogue (ROG) Leveling Guide

How to level up your Rogue (ROG) fast! Useful cross-class skills, reminders, and the best places to be in any level – HERE!

ffxiv rogue rog leveling guide banner

Finding yourself here probably means you’re leveling a Rogue. Well, if you don’t wanna be part of the hidden village of nooblets, you’ve found the right guide! You’ll easily sneak past the early levels with our Rogue Leveling Guide! Rogues deal a good amount of damage compared to other classes early on, so you got that goin’ for ya.

WAIT RIGHT THERE! this Rogue Leveling Guide is best used along with the FFXIV General Leveling Guide. Of course, if this is your first character – follow your story quest! If you’re new, it’ll do you good to check out the basics of a Rogue.

Not sure where the ROG guild is? It’s in Limsa. You have Accuracy Food? Good. Is your battle chocobo (+Gyashl Greens) ready? Good.

Wait a sec, I’m above L30 – I’m a NIN! Then check out the Ninja Leveling Guide.

Rogue: the early levels.

Fresh off the Rogue block?! Go out there and slice up hunting log! A low level character doing hunting logs + participating in level appropriate FATES is the best and most practical source of EXP in the early levels. For you (Rogue), you’ll find yourself up and about Lower and Middle La Noscea a lot. Your mission right now is to rush past the easly levels! If you’ve got a lot of leves, and feel like using them, do some levequests in Red Rooster Stead (Level 1 & Level 5), which is a west of Tempest Gate from Limsa (Lower La Noscea). Again, go out of your way to do all FATEs you can handle!

protip: Got some cross-class skills? Second Wind (PGL 8), Bloodbath (MRD 8) and Protect (CNJ 8) are pretty much the best you can ask for. They drastically minimize risk of death, and allows you to kill monsters with a higher level than your own! All in all, reducing your downtime significantly!

Level 2 skill reminder – Perfect Dodge: I might as well tell you now. You know those quests or FATES that you have to interact (pick up) something? Getting interrupted by enemies? Well, Perfect Dodge prevents that. A small boon, but still.

Level 4 skill reminder – Gust Slash: Your first combo skill. GS combos off Spinning Edge. Get used to the basics of a combo so you’re familiar with the concept early on. Golden rule is never break a combo!

Level 6 skill reminder – Wasp Venom: ALWAYS keep this on. This is a free, passive buff to your damage. Make it a habit to ALWAYS have a venom!

Level 8 skill reminder – Mutilate: Your first DoT (Damage over time). Keep in mind, for DoT’s to gain max value, enemies must survive at or near the full duration. Use it for tougher enemies!

Review the tips mentioned above and you should level up to 10 in no time… Finally 10? Grats! Make sure your hunting log (tier 1) is complete. You’ve also gained your first unallocated attribute points: dump them all into DEX. Before proceeding, Check the Rogue guildmaster every 5 levels – level 1 5 and 10 for now – Get your class quests done ASAP! Try to go back to your guildmaster every 5 levels from here on out.

Level 10 skill reminder – Hide: Well, theres not so much to say about Hide. If you need to go around places without being seen, keep this in mind.

Rogue Level 10 to 16

The very first thing you want to do as you hit 10 is Guildhests. Still unlocked? Go to a town nearby (likely Swiftperch) and unlock it. You got a large EXP bonus for completion of a Guildhest on every class you do them on. AND ALONG WITH THIS  is unlocking the queue for Daily Roulette: Guildhests, to get bonus exp once every day! For now, queue up the guildhests Under the Armor and Basic Training: Enemy Parties. SAYING IT AGAIN: You can get the completion bonus EXP for EVERY CLASS.

You should be close to (closer via Aetheryte…) Aleport in Western La Noscea. Everyone levels here at this range! Lots of people and a bunch of FATEs means a bunch of EXP. No FATEs at the moment? Check out the Levequests Aleport. Too easy? +4 the difficulty slider! Too hard? Swiftperch offers L10-14 Leves!! Grind your way to Rogue level 16 in this area.

Level 12 skill reminder – Mug: Ignore the stealing part. Treat it as an off-GCD damage skill. What’s off-GCD? You can use it while your other skills are on ‘cooldown’. Basically fitting it in between two skills. Value!

Level 15 skill reminder – Assassinate: An ‘execute’, meaning you can only do this when the enemy is low life. It’s off GCD, and is pretty much a mirror skill of Mercy Stroke.

Reminder Level 15: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – Basic Training: Enemy Strongholds, and Hero on the Halfshell.

Level 16 – the turning point: AT LAST! Rogue level 16, you’ve unlocked Duty Roulette: Low level  dungeon. Completing it successfully merits a MEGA EXP BONUS ONCE A DAY. Have you heard of or unlocked Challenge Logs? If not, what are you waiting for! (It initially unlocks at level 16) How to unlock the Challenge Log is mentioned in the General Leveling Guide. Getting to max level after hitting 16 is a lot less stressful. Go!

Dungeons as ROG: You might do too much single target damage for new tanks (Take it easy on these guys, they may actually be new players/tanks)! Open up fights by DoTing the entire pack before smashing whoever the tank is hitting. It’s not cool pulling aggro from your tank.

Skill reminder level 18 – Goad: A nice skill for party play. Goad grants TP regeneration to a party member (cannot be cast on self, sadly). Always handy, use it during boss battles or larger packs (Overpower!)

Rogue: finishing up to level 20: Check up and finish any missing Hunting Logs. I’m not blaming you if you’re sick of Aleport… If so you can check out: Bentbranch Meadows (East Shroud) and Camp Drybone (Eastern Thanalan). They’re both roughly the same level zones. Go ahead and go to your guildmaster once you’re 20 and do the class quest. If you have any stat points: stick em into DEX! Alllright, lets continue!

Rogue Level 20 – 30

You know how it goes by now (If not, lemme remind you, son) – Daily Low Level Roulette, Daily Guildhest, FATES + Leves. Test out if you can handle Quarrymill (South Shroud) pick up Leves and FATEs around here. If you’ve got to this point with SUCKY GEAR, you’re gonna start noticing the effects! Thankfully you’ve been gathering gear from Dungeon Roulette – like I told you to, correct?!  In case you forget, Accuracy Food is a HUGE help!

Reminder Level 20: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – Pulling Poison Posies & Stinging Back.

Trait reminder level 20 – Fleet of Foot: Well, it makes you move faster. Great for leveling, great for dodging mechanics. I just decided to point this out in case you’re wondering why you seem a little faster :)

Skill reminder level 22 – Sneak Attack: A massive nuke. As long as this is up, use it! You will typically be doing this as an opener via Hide -> Sneak Attack when soloing.

Alternate FATE spot mid 20’s: One place that should heavily be considered is  Highbridge Area in Eastern Thanalan (Like this). Great for actively farming FATEs (even better when ‘afk camping’ the FATEchain)! If you queue up for dungeons and wanna ‘relax’ but still get chunky EXP every so often – this is it (Melee DPS and waiting for queues go hand in hand).

Reminder Level 25: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – All’s Well that Ends in the Well & Flicking Sticks and Taking Names.

Level 26 Skill Reminder – Aeolian Edge: Your basic combo finisher! Spinning Edge -> Gust Slash -> Aeolian Edge does massive damage, and should make your solo life much easier.

At Level 28: Go and ‘test the waters’ at  Costa Del Sol, Eastern La Noscea! (Too hard? Party up!) This will be your FATE and Leve grindzone until you reac h30. If you’ve finally levelled to 30, Let’s wrap things up! Allocate unused stat points into DEX, erase any unfinished hunting logs, and and head on over to Limsa to grab your last class quest before doing ANYTHING ELSE.

Skill reminder Level 30 – Kiss of the Viper: For the most part, this is identical to your other venom (Wasp Venom) for now. Just reminding you, you have two venoms, make sure ONE is up for gods sake. You can’t stack both btw.

Rogue 30 onwards: What to do?

Once you’re done with the (final) L30 ROG class quest (If you got Kiss of the Viper, you’re good to go!), you have two main choices:

  • Ninja (requires Pugilist 15 and ROG 30)
  • Alternate job path for Rogue not yet released.

If you’ve chose Ninja- continue with our Ninja Leveling Guide. You might need to level Pugilist 15, go ahead and use the Pugilist Leveling Guide, too

FFXIV Lancer (LNC) Leveling Guide

How to level up your Lancer (LNC) fast! Useful cross-class skills, reminders, and the best places to be in any level – HERE!

ffxiv lancer lnc leveling guide banner

“Stick them with the pointy end”. Being here means you’re leveling up a Lancer! Well fate has THRUST you into the right place! Get past the early game FAST with our Lancer Leveling Guide! Good thing for you, Lancers are pretty resilient soloing!

HOLD UP! this Lancer Leveling Guide should be used along side the FFXIV General Leveling Guide. Of course, if this is your first character – follow your story quest! You might as well check out the basics of a Lancer, too, if you’re new.

Don’t know where the LNC guild is? It’s in Gridania. Got some Accuracy Food? good. Is your battle chocobo (+Gyashl Greens) ready? Good.

Wait a sec, I’m above L30 – I’m a DRG! Then check out the Dragoon Leveling Guide.

Lancer: the early levels.

A newbie lancer are ye?! Get to work ASAP skewering your hunting log! A low level character doing hunting logs + participating in level appropriate FATES is the most efficient EXP source early on. For you (Lancer), you’ll be wandering around Central and North Shroud a lot. Your objective right now is to get past the early levels. If you feel like using leves, you can gain some EXP doing levequests in The Bannock (Level 1 & Level 5), it’s  north of Bentbranch Meadows (Central Shroud). Feel free to smash any FATE you might encounter!

protip: If you have cross-class skills, use them! Second Wind (PGL 8), Bloodbath (MRD 8) and Protect (CNJ 8) are hands down the most useful cross-class skills. They allow you to tackle enemies you have no business being up against! They also prevent a lot of deaths which are the main cause of leveling downtime.

Level 4 skill reminder – Vorpal Thrust: Your first COMBO attack. This combos FROM True Thrust. Get used to the concept of combos and how they work. You’ll be doing it a lot.

Level 8 skill reminder – Impulse Drive: (FOR THE MORE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS) ID gives a bonus of +10 average potency versus TT+VT combo. While I don’t recommend doing this… since they removed the back attack off ID this is actually a thing. It’s dead boring, though.

Just do whats mentioned above and you’ll reach 10 in not time… 10 now? Grats! Complete all your hunting logs in this tier. You’ve also gained your first unallocated attribute points: dump them all into STR. Before you go, Check the Lancer guildmaster every 5 levels – level 1 5 and 10 for now – Don’t delay your class quests! Try to check in every 5 levels for the remainder of your leveling process!

Level 10 skill reminder – Leg Sweep: Your first OFF GCD attack. Mainly you’ll be using this to boost your damage. However, keep in mind you can save it to STUN and CANCEL annoying monster attacks.

Lancer Level 10 to 16

Right after hitting level 10 the first thing you wanna do is Guildhests. Haven’t got them unlocked? Travel to almost any nearby town (likely Bentbranch Meadows) and unlock it. Doing Guildhests gives a beefy first-time completion EXP bonus on ANY class. ALSO UNLOCKED is the ability to queue up for Daily Roulette: Guildhests, to get bonus exp once every day! For now, queue up the guildhests Under the Armor and Basic Training: Enemy Parties. IF YOU DIDN’T HEAR IT: EXP bonus for first completion is for ALL CLASSES!!

Make your way (hopefully via teleport) to Aleport in Western La Noscea. This place is THE place level up around this range. Lots of FATES, lots of PEOPLE = profit. FATEs not showing up? Get some Levequests in Aleport. Too easy? Scale it up to +4! Too hard? Swiftperch has leves that can be tuned to level 10 to 14!! Grind in this map until your Lancer reaches level 16.

Level 12 skill reminder – Heavy Thrust: Gives a +DMG buff that is VERY SIGNIFICANT. Always keep this up even if you do not hit from flank! You can change your opener to ‘Approach enemy and flank attack them with Heavy Thrust”

Reminder Level 15: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – Basic Training: Enemy Strongholds, and Hero on the Halfshell.

Level 16 – the turning point: FINALLY! Lancer level 16! You’ve unlocked Duty Roulette: Low level  dungeon. Successful completion of this gives a GIGANTIC EXP BONUS ONCE A DAY. ((Challenge Log)) ((Do you have it)) Unlocked? Do it now!! (It initially unlocks at level 16) Unlocking challenge log is detailed in the General Leveling Guide. After hitting 16, the road to max level is much, much easier.

Dungeons as LNC: You might do too much damage for low level tanks to keep aggro sometimes (depends on tank quality). One trick is to cross-class a DoT (Venomous Bite or Fracture), so you can spread out damage. Don’t be too harsh on low level tanks… they might actually be NEW to it! It isn’t cool to purposefully pull aggro from your tank.

Skill reminder level 18 – Life Surge: A welcome cooldown for soloing and otherwise. An ensured crit with lifesteal! Use it on your strongest attacks (Vorpal Thrust for now) to keep your life up. Do not forget its damage potential either.

Lancer: finishing up to level 20: Finish your hunting log if it’s not done. If you want to try another place (Don’t blame you if you’re sick of aleport) Go to: Bentbranch Meadows (East Shroud) and Camp Drybone (Eastern Thanalan). They’re both similarly leveled (15~) zones. Double check and complete all LNC class quests (head to your guildmaster)and place all unspent stat points in STR! Ok? Go!!!

Lancer Level 20 – 30

You know what to do at this point: Daily Guildhest, Daily Low Level Roulette, FATES + Leves. See if you can handle Quarrymill (South Shroud) and continue FATE grinding and Levequesting there. If you’re here and your gear is really bad, you’re gonna feel it! But you’ve been doing daily Dungeon Roulette – hmm… HMM?!  If I haven’t told you enough, Accuracy Food REALLY helps out!

Reminder Level 20: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – Pulling Poison Posies & Stinging Back.

Skill reminder level 22 – Invigorate: A KEY skill in the endgame. You might be reading this guide purely to be getting this (or Blood for Blood). Regains TP, nuff said. In a solo/leveling perspective, use it to sprint!

Alternate FATE spot mid 20’s: One mildly popular but oft forgotten spot is the Highbridge Area in Eastern Thanalan (Like this). This place is great for both active and AFK farming! This FATE chain is great to camp or while queued for dungeon (Melee DPS and waiting for queues go hand in hand).

Reminder Level 25: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – All’s Well that Ends in the Well & Flicking Sticks and Taking Names.

Level 26 Skill Reminder – Full Thrust: This is your first combo finisher. Does massive damage, and comboes from True -> Vorpal -> Full. Usage of life surge should now be paired up with this. This makes leveling a lot easier since things die significantly faster with Full Thrust combo!

At Level 28: Try your luck at the tropic waterscape we all love: Costa Del Sol, Eastern La Noscea! Levequest and FATE here until you reach L30 (You might need a party if your gear is bad). Levelled up to 30? I’ll remind you yet again… allocate all stat points into STR, smash any unfinished hunting logs, and and finish your class quests in Gridania before doing ANYTHING ELSE.

Skill reminder Level 30 – Phlebotomize: ‘Phleb’ comboes off Heavy Thrust, which means it comes out early on in our rotation. Not a bad thing since it’s a DoT. While it may feel wasted on weaker monsters, Phlebs high potency won’t make you regret using it in most scenarios.

Lancer 30 onwards: What to do?

So, if you’ve completed your (final) L30 LNC class quest (Phlebotimize learned means you’ve done it). From here you have two main choices:

  • Dragoon (requires Marauder 15 and LNC 30)
  • Alternate job path for Lancer not yet released.

If you’re going Dragoon – continue with our Dragoon Leveling Guide. If you still need Marauder 15, go ahead and use the Marauder Leveling Guide.

Sadly, there is no second job path for Lancers yet – but i’m looking forward to updating this filler sentence in the near future :)

Good job piercing into the heavens of EXP! I certainly wish the Lancer Leveling Guide was useful! You’ve still got a ways to go – but you’ve done good so far! For more awesome FFXIV updates, go ahead and Like us on Facebook – and if you need to drop a line, follow us on Twitter!

FFXIV Arcanist (ACN) Leveling Guide

How to level up your Arcanist (ACN) fast! Useful cross-class skills, reminders, and the best places to be in any level – HERE!

ffxiv arcanist acn leveling guide banner

Leveling an Arcanist, right? Why else would you be here! You (and Carbuncle) have found the right guide to help out! Hopefully our Arcanist Leveling Guide will show you the way past the early game! Luckily, Arcanists are one of the easiest classes to solo with! 2v1 is so unfair, after all!

WAAAAIIIT! this Arcanist Leveling Guide is designed to be used with FFXIV General Leveling Guide. Of course, if this is your first character – follow your story quest! Need some reminding on: basics of an Arcanist, check that out.

Don’t know where the ACN guild is? It’s in Limsa. Have some Accuracy Food? good. Is your battle chocobo (+Gyashl Greens) ready? Good.

Wait a sec, I’m above L30 – I’m a SCH/SMN! Then check out the Scholar Leveling Guide OR the Summoner Leveling Guide.

Arcanist: the early levels.

Just got them Arcanist robes ey? Start off by wiping up your hunting log. A level one character doing hunting logs + participating in level appropriate FATES is the most efficient EXP source early on. For you (Arcanist), you’ll find yourself up and about Lower and Middle La Noscea often. Your goal right now is to blaze through the early levels. If you’ve got a surplus of leves, you can gain more EXP by doing levequests in Red Rooster Stead (Level 1 & Level 5), which is a west of Tempest Gate from Limsa (Lower La Noscea). Do all nearby FATES if they pop!

protip: You got some cross-class skills? Protect (CNJ 8) is the most helpful. Also Aero (CNJ 4) is AMAZING. Trust me… spamming ruin sucks. Second Wind (PGL 8) isn’t the best but might serve in a pinch. It might be worth getting a level 4 CNJ just for Aero…

Level 2 skill reminder – Bio: Your first DoT (Damage over time), but not your last. (Hopefully you have Aero, too) DoT’s need time for it to reach passable value. Do NOT DoT enemies that will die quickly, or enemies with extremely low HP.

Level 4 skill reminder – Summon I: Well, this is why you’re an Arcanist right! Always and I mean ALWAYS have good ‘ol Carbuncle up. It’s literally FREE damage.

Level 6 skill reminder – Aetherflow: The most important skill in any Arcanists toolbox. Restores mana and gives you Aether flow stacks to use on certain skills like….

Level 8 skill reminder – Energy Drain: In terms of soloing – use this to nuke enemies OFTEN. Many times, you’ll just have aetherflow stacks sitting around doing nothing. There’s no reason to save these while soloing! Energy Drain is an off-gcd skill, to boot.

You’ll hit level 10 in no time using the above methods.Got to 10? Grats! Finish up your hunting log if you haven’t already. You’ve also gained some stat points to use – place them all to INT. Don’t forget, Go back to the Arcanist guildmaster every 5 levels – level 1 5 and 10 in this case – always you do your class quests! Get this done ASAP for every 5 level interval in the future!

Level 10 skill reminder – Miasma: Your second DoT. Open every fight with Miasma>Bio>Aero. This also applies heavy on enemies!

Why INT as arcanist? Well, since you can’t queue up as healer until level 30, and you can’t use Cleric Stance either… leveling up with points in INT is just more sensible. You can always respec cheaply when you hit 30!

Arcanist Level 10 to 16

Upon getting level 10 get right to doing Guildhests. You haven’t unlocked them? Check out almost any nearby town (likely Moraby Drydocks) and unlock it. Completing a Guildhest gives a large first-time completion bonus with ANY class. IN ADDITION  you can queue up for Daily Roulette: Guildhests, to get bonus exp once every day! For now, queue up the guildhests Under the Armor and Basic Training: Enemy Parties. I’LL SAY IT AGAIN: First time EXP bonus for completion is for ALL CLASSES!

Make the trip (hopefully not walking)  to Aleport in Western La Noscea. As the dothraki would say “Leveling in aleport at this level is best. It is known”. A cluster of fates and a clusterf*ck of people mean lots of EXP! FATEs dried up? You can take Levequests from Aleport. Too easy? Rank it up to +4! Too hard? Do Levequests (10-14) in Swiftperch! Now grind it up in this manner until your Arcanist reaches level 16.

Reminder Level 15: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – Basic Training: Enemy Strongholds, and Hero on the Halfshell.

Level 15 Skill Reminder – Summon II: A ‘Tank’ summon. This little guy can be useful if you’re fighting harder enemies. Try it out! Some people like this guy over our little blue friend. (This is obtained via ACN class quest L15)

Level 16 – the turning point: At last! Arcanist level 16! You’ve unlocked Duty Roulette: Low level  dungeon. Completing this successfully gives you a SHOCKING EXP BONUS ONCE A DAY. Have you got Challenge Log Unlocked? Do it if you haven’t! (It initially unlocks at level 16) See how you can unlock the Challenge Log in the General Leveling Guide. Once you’ve reached level 16, the rest of the journey is considerably easier!

Dungeons as a ACN: Simply DoT every enemy in the pack BEFORE ruin spamming. If you pull aggro doing this, then it is your tanks fault. Take it easy on low level tanks, though… they might actually be NEW PLAYERS, so adjust if needed. It’s never cool to pull from your tank as dps.

Skill reminder level 18 – Sustain: A massive heal over time to your pet. Yep, if it wasn’t easy enough already… In the end-game this skill isn’t used often but you would be best served not to forget it exists.

Arcanist: finishing up to level 20: Seek and destroy any unfinished logs! Sick of Aleport? I dont blame you! Check out: Bentbranch Meadows (East Shroud) and Camp Drybone (Eastern Thanalan). They’re are also 15+~ FATE and Levequests zones. Make sure you’ve done all ACN quests (head to your guildmaster), and if you have stat points – put them in INT!

Arcanist Level 20 – 30

By now you know the drill on grinding: hunt logs, FATES, Daily Guildhest, Daily Low Level Roulette, Leves… By now you can test out Quarrymill (South Shroud) and continue FATE grinding and Levequest there. If your gear is massively outdated you’re going to start feeling it badly NOW… but you’ve been doing daily Dungeon Roulette – right…RIGHT?!?!  I’ll remind you yet again… Accuracy Food is much more helpful that you think!

Reminder Level 20: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – Pulling Poison Posies & Stinging Back.

protip: If you have the cross-class skil Swiftcast, you can use it with Resurrection in tandem for dungeons. A useful combo until the endgame!

Alternate FATE spot mid 20’s: Often looked over and quite underrated, the Highbridge Area in Eastern Thanalan (Like this). This place is chock full of FATE’s and there’s like 5 in ONE CHAIN! This chain is great to camp while AFK or waiting for your dungeon queue (Waiting for queue is second nature to melee DPS like ACN).

Reminder Level 25: Queue up for the two new Guildhests – All’s Well that Ends in the Well & Flicking Sticks and Taking Names.

Level 26 Skill Reminder – Bio II: Your third DoT. At this point you should change your opener to Bio II -> Miasma -> Bio I. I don’t know if other people do it differently, but this order seems most practical (lines up the refreshing time).

At Level 28: Get your suntan lotion and visit the beaches of Costa Del Sol, Eastern La Noscea. Do the usual levequesting and FATE-grinding until you get to 30. Reached 30? For the millionth time – place unused attribute points into INT, finish your hunting log if you haven’t already, and head back to your guildmaster in Limsa for any unfinished class quests.

Skill reminder Level 30 – Bane: One of your few AoE skills… this one’s pretty deadly in small groups (exactly 4 is best). It spreads all your existing DoT’s on target to 3 other guys. Extremely powerful!

Arcanist 30 onwards: What to do?

If you’ve completed with the (final) L30 ACN class quest (Bane  learned? You’re good to go). From here you have two main choices:

  • Scholar (requires Conjurer 15 and ACN 30)
  • Summoner (required Thaumaturge 15 and ACN 30)

If you’re going Scholar – continue with our Scholar Leveling Guide. If you still need Conjurer 15, go ahead and use the Conjurer Leveling Guide.

If you’re going straight to summoner – continue with our Summoner Leveling Guide. You might still need to level up THM. In that case use the Thaumaturge Leveling Guide.

Good luck with your journey from here on and thanks for using our Arcanist Leveling Guide! Time to catch ‘em all with either SCH or SMN! For more awesome FFXIV updates, go ahead and Like us on Facebook – and if you need to drop a line, follow us on Twitter!
